How to disable pop out video, youtube is forcing them now
-
Now youtube is forcing pop-out videos to appear when your playing a video and click on another button to navigate elsewhere.
How can we permanently disable the pop-out "feature", its solving problems we do not have. -
@ericalbers Hello, and welcome to the Vivaldi Community
I don't see that here. Please give an example of a video where it happens.
Is this on YouTube Music?Note that YouTube is constantly testing out different settings for users, and it might depend on your location and other random factors.
Try to clear all cookies and cache from Youtube. Devtools > Application tab > Clear site data.
Disable extensions.
Test in a clean profile. -
It is a music video, see
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DGxm1csQQM&list=RD2DGxm1csQQM&start_radio=1Note that if you play it, then click on the youtube icon to leave, it forces a popup window to appear and continue playing.
There must be some way to stop it from thinking "hey, this guy doesn't actually want to LEAVE, I mean, he clicked on a icon to leave, but theres this hip tunes playing, he wants to keep hearing it...so I'll decide for him that I'll keep playing it while even though he's left"
Seems rather rude to force someone to keep playing a video even when they have explicitly clicked on a button to LEAVE.
And I would hope my browser would protect me and give me the ability to stop from being abused like this.
So I was hoping vivaldi had some kind of protection from this....as it did not used to happen in previous versions, it must be some kind of new 'feature', so I assume it would have a OFF button somewhere.

@ericalbers I think it happens because it is a playlist, not a single video.

Confirmed here, in Snapshot
Vivaldi 3.4.2049.2 / Chrome 86.0.4240.38
AND in Firefox-Nightly.@ericalbers said in How to disable pop out video, youtube is forcing them now:

I'm no apologist for YT, but tbh i suspect that for each user who feels like you do on this point, there might be 1+ other users who see such site behaviour as a feature.

Fwiw i suspect you expect too much here. Your interpretation of how that YT site "should" behave is not going to be universal, & so other users would not necessarily see this as "abuse", & perchance might be irritated if their browser second-guessed [incorrectly] their preferences.

@ericalbers This pop-out is not a separate window like Vivaldi's Picture-in-Picture feature. It's a feature that YouTube has added to the YouTube website -- it's literally just a normal video element embedded in the webpage, positioned so that it is floating over the page content.
Vivaldi could technically prevent this. However, doing so would mean that they had to add an option that targets a specific website (youtube.com) and manipulates the content of that specific website. Vivaldi will most likely not add this since it's way too specific, and probably will break as soon as YouTube decide to update their page.
However, something you could try doing is to block the popup with an ad blocker rule. Just note that this might just block the video playing from appearing, and not stop it from playing (i.e. you might still hear the audio).
