Impossible to download in Windows 7 with Vivaldi 3.3.2022.39
-
When I would like to download an attached file from an email, event a very little one, it ended up freezing my PC. The keyboard and mouse are inactive and I have to turn it off with the power button.
At the bottom of the download window (on the left of the browser), you can see the download speed. This speed decreases rapidly to reach a few bytes per second and the PC crashes completely. Alt + Ctrl + Sup no longer works.
If I do the same operation from Chrome on the same PC, it works fine.
Likewise, if I do the same operation on my other PC which uses Windows 10, it also works fine.
Please help me find another solution than doing my downloads from Chrome ... -
I had to same problem and reverted back to Viv 3.1.1929.45 and the problem stopped. Fix has not been released yet. It seems that this version loads repeated copies of vivaldi.exe in core and everything slows down until it seems like the cpu is stopped. Hopefully a fix soon!

@Gwen-Dragon Hi! I think this problem relates to an older one 10-12 days ago (and a few more) called "Download slow, slowing down, increases CPU and opens lots of instances {Win 7}" and one where you replied "Bug report filed: VB-71894. Cheers." Please let me know if I'm in error. I do hope this can be resolved. Seems like the problem is just with Win 7.

There is no support for Windows 7 since January 2020!
You are surfing in free flight! Not a good idea. ^^ Time for an upgrade...
-
@Ice007 Win7 still works, and will be still used for few years, don't worry. I find Win10 annoying and an actual downgrade in usability, I have to use it on 2 PC at work and it's just bugging me, luckily my main PC at work and home are Win7 and no intention to change until the software I need work in them.
The problem is probably just on the OP setup, as it's not something happening on anyone else's Win7 PC. -
@iAN-CooG Then good luck... If the next Virus find your "curiosity" it will teach you. ^^
-
@Ice007 I see what you're trying to do, spreading illogical fear about the end of support of an OS. For what it's worth, I never caught a virus on any of my Windows PCs, even before on Win98 either (which I kept for years after its support was ended). I don't see why end of support should change anything for me. It's just stupid people clicking everything they get on mail or visit suspicious sites without protections that get viruses, even with an OS updated the same day.
-
@iAN-CooG I "try" nothing. If you wanna use Win7 until the sun goes out? Your decision.
I only said thats no good idea.
-
@iAN-CooG All the PC's that have reported this problem are Win 7's!! It started with VIV 3.3 and I went back to 3.1 and it's ok. All I can say is ???????????
(I've stayed with Win 7 and intend to do so!) -
@davechatt I don't know, I'm on 3.4.2049.2 snapshot on both my Home and Work PCs and no problems whatsoever, the work PC is even always on 24/7 as I connect remotely to it from home during working hours, hasn't been shut down or reset in at least 3 months now.
Probably something wrong with your extensions or even corrupt profiles, you should try refreshing your default profile

@davechatt I read that there are a few users on Windows XP who had to revert to an even older version of Vivaldi.
Everyone is free to choose, but don't expect modern software to prioritise issues with a legacy Operating System that even Microsoft are no longer supporting.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Thanks. I can download again !
-
@marc-dufournet What was the fix? Updating to latest version was the solution?
-
@davechatt I did submit a ticket to support as advised by @Gwen-Dragon which I referenced in that discussion thread you mentioned: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/50731/download-slow-slowing-down-increases-cpu-and-opens-lots-of-instances-win-7
One workaround that seems to have worked for me and that thread's original poster @murlocq was to delete the "History" in the Vivaldi profile directory - which I suggested in that thread as well.
