What is stopping you from using V all the time?
-
"find on page" function sticky across tabs
That's already available. Press F3 to find the same search string in the new tab, or press Ctrl F to edit the search string.
-
Vivaldi is yet usable as a good browser, but like many others here I'm waiting for the moment, when I can import/use my many ten thousands of Opera 12 mails in Vivaldi.
-
I started using Vivaldi more often, but I'm stumbling over misdetected mouse gestures all the time. Especially the ones involving two or more movements. Vivaldi often misses the last movement and then executes the wrong command as a result. Like trying to close a tab (down-right) and opening a new tab (down) instead.
Only Opera (the old and the new one) seems to get it right currently.

Speed Dial is stopping me from adopting Vivaldi as my main browser. I hate this  feature so much!
Please allow us to start Vivaldi without it.
Thanks!!! -

Thanks!!!You are not alone not liking the speed dial. Some people hate it on their phone as well!
Anywho, we have gotten a few requests similar to yours from users, but far more wanting to be able to set Speed Dial as home page. But since this is Vivaldi we want you all to happy so "disable speed dial" is on our feature request list. And probably not extremely far down on it.

1. Broken zoom
2. Links selection
3. MMB to open new tab
4. Bookmark menu button
5. Privacy settings + private browsing mode
6. Smooth scrolling (like FF has)
7. Portable mode -
There are other things it would be nice to have, but what's stopping me using it is "Always on Top" windows, which I posted a thread about elsewhere.
I don't have much hope of that becoming a feature though unfortunately. -

Will feet the needs of people who want a more customizable speeddial (like me), and also the needs of people (who wants a netscape like home/new page)

I still use Firefox because none of the blink-based browsers (Chromium, Opera, or Vivaldi) have customizable mouse gestures.
This is particularly annoying with Opera and Vivaldi, because Opera invented them, and Vivaldi is supposed to be for people that don't like the new direction Opera is taking!
(And no, none of the chrome extensions are any good. They need to always work. And most of them are malware/adware to boot.)
-
I still run XP on my laptop at home (and will be for quite some time yet) so I can't use Vivaldi at all on that
If I could then just email for me, I think. I've used M2 for years and years and that was the main reason I stuck with the old version of Opera.

I think that "maybe" it's about time to be happy for you. Stay tuned

Opera 12 is what is stopping me from using Vivaldi.
-I like the customization that Presto Opera offers. Skins, themes, most importantly, CUSTOM BUTTONS. "Minimize all" is a godsend. Remember a guy named Tamil?
-I like how I can have the search engine in my search bar different from the one on my speed dial page.
-Opera 12's password management. The only one that comes close is the one in Avant browser, which is also made by a fan of Presto Opera.
-Presto Opera's ad blocking scheme. I like being able to select which ads I block as they appear in the page.
-Having the browser ask me on startup if I want to pick up where I left off or start anew.
-Opera's startup time.
-Being able to sort my bookmarks
-synchronizing the browser.
-Being able to open private tabs or windows.
-Opera's download manager
-Opera 12's network settings being more robustBasically, what's stopping me from using Vivaldi regularly is Opera 12. Every feature in Opera 12, great and small, if these were to be implemented in Vivaldi, I would switch. Reverse engineer it if necessary. Even 4 years after its demise, Opera 12 is still a top notch browser. Unfortunately, it will not be able to keep up with web changes.

Huh? That last update of Opera 12 was a few weeks ago. But even if you define "demise" as stop of further development, that happenend in 2013 just three years ago IIRC.
Unfortunately, it will not be able to keep up with web changes.
The open web is lost anyway. We're now just looking for a temporary refuge until the concept of the "web browser" is made complety obsolete and replaced by proprietary apps for accessing each service.

I just installed Vivaldi and made it my default browser on my Mac. I regret that now after ten minutes already, mainly for these 2 reasons:
-
Speed dial. I hated this feature from the moment it started to pop up in Safari, the main browser I use. Here it seems there is no escaping from it. For a product that claims to be there for the users, understand that this is one of the things you should allow users to turn off. I find it a prime example of an option for 'dumb' users.
-
Tab terror. I often go on a site where messages are sent on a new window that is supposed to pup up. Here EVERYTHING is opened in a new tab. I don't want it! It takes me away from the main site that I'm visiting. It's annoying and unwanted. Stop thinking everybody wants tabs only and all the time.
-
Google centrism. I try to be Google free. I go into the settings here and am confronted with all kinds of Google settings. I know Google has a monopoly on good search, but understand not all people are slavishly accepting this, or Google. I am already a bit unhappy to know I am using a browser built on Google code (basically you didn't built a browser, you built a fork), but be a bit more independent.
-
-
Bookmarking. I have explained why in a feature request but like the Opera and Firefox forums nobody understand one time saving feature Chrome has.
-
1. Right-click on highlighted word and "Search withβ¦" [my choice of search]. I often want to look a word up in a dictionary, or on Wikipedia, or just translate a paragraph of text, for instance. This is one of my most frequently used things in Opera classic.
2. Copy to note & Paste note (and insert personal information). I know you can copy a selection to a new note in Vivaldi, but not use those notes to populate text boxes.
3. "Add as search" doesn't always appear - for instance I'd like to create a search for this forum but when I right-click on the search box up top the option to add it isn't there?
In general a bit of work is needed on the context menu to bring the browser more up to the useability level of my trusty old Opera⦠please

First - great job team V. It is progressing nicely in a very timely manner. There are so many things about Vivaldi I like. Especially thanks for the high level of communication from the team - that goes such a long way ! β¦.
UI Inflexibility is a big issue for me with Vivaldi, as I come most recently from Mozilla-based browsers, which have this wonderful Drag-and-Drop Customize screen, where nearly all elements can be repositioned to my liking, and the few which cannot, well those can be managed thru a few selected extensions.
~This. I would love to be able to freely move the buttons around. When all my extensions of pushed off to one side it is annoying.
Panel I don't like how this is a stick able item. I wish it had an option where it would open as a temporary menu or something. Or overlay as to not mess with the site I am on.
-
1. Chrome extension bugginess, lastpass, xmarks, etc only halfway work, and sometimes insta-crash the entire browser. (At most it should only crash the open tab)
2. drag and drop tabs into new window without reloading. Crucially important for a tab hoarder like myself.
3. general performance issues with too many tabs open. I'm still afraid to use this on my windows tablet. At least implement background tab suspension like chrome recently did? (I haven't tried great suspender on here yet)

OK - I have been using Vivaldi (on Mac) for several days now. First and foremost I REALLY like it. I like the concept, and I like the execution. Its very snappy and gets the job done. I would like to make this my "go to" browser, and i will keep at it for ow, but a couple things really disappoint. First is the fact that videos do not seem to play reliably. Not sure why. I have a pacemaker and was visiting the Medtronic site trying to view an instructional video. Video starts then freezes. I reload, retry - same thing. Quit - restart Vivaldi - still no luck. Try other browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) - they all work fine. This is a problem.
Second issue is with bookmarks. It should be much easier and intuitive to import my existing set from another browser. They imported, but were buried in the bookmark hierarchy. Been spending a lot of time trying to get it to my preferred set-up.
One last thing - stupid Little thing (I know) - would really like colorful tabs (like Firefox).
Here's hoping that with a few more tweaks I can make a permanent move!

I introduced Vivaldi to a friend of mine who works for an IT company. They use Firefox on MAC computers and he said he really liked it right from the off, and all of his colleagues said they loved it when he showed it to them but the one thing (currently) stopping them is that they rely heavily on a FF add on called "Modify Headers".
Does anyone who is familiar with that know of an extension which will enable them to do the same in Vivaldi? If so they will probably switch.
