Solved Size of User Data folder very large
-
Hi there
For many years I've backed up on a monthly basis the User Data folder of Vivaldi found at C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Vivaldi
I save the User Data folder so that when I have for example a reformat I can be back up and running very quickly with all my preferred Settings, Theme, etc etc all intact.
However I'm a bit alarmed at it's size, a whopping 1.19 GB (compared with Firefox at 216 mb) !!!!
Inside the Default folder I have 3 large folders ...
a) Cache 370 mb
b) Code Cache 291 mb
c) Service Worker 249 mb
Is it safe to reduce the size of these 3 folders ?
What will be the effect of doing so ?Can anyone please advise ?
Thanks
Billy

Hi mib2berlin
Thanks for your reply.
I didn't quite understand your instructions regarding key combinations so ended up selecting by hand all the files involved and then hitting Delete.
It took ages and ages to delete all the files but once done Vivaldi was 1 GB lighter !!!.
This result was exactly what I wanted and will certainly help my backups time-wise.I googled around and found some commands that I could use that would do the job lightening fast (in seconds)...
Command Prompt (Admin)
cd "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Cache"
rd /s /q . 2>nulcd "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Code Cache"
rd /s /q . 2>nulcd "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Service Worker
rd /s /q . 2>nulOnce deleted I refilled those folders with only those files that appear immediately after a new install of Vivaldi.
I'll do this little exercise just before I go to backup each month.
Everything is working just fine and web pages are still loading just as quick.
Thanks

@BillyBootlace
Hi, you can delete all cache data without issues.
For a): If you visit a web page again it load images not from the cache it reload it from the web sever.
Same for b) and c).
Depends of your internet connection it may slow down loading pages but after some days all often visited pages are in the cache again
Ctrl+Shift+Del open the "Delete Dialog", Cache, Storage, Application Cache is what you are looking for.
If Ctrl+Shift+Del does not work use the brush showing in History > Ctrl+H.Cheers, mib
