Solved How to move a tab from one profile to another?
-
I have one Vivaldi profile per client active. Is there a way to move a tab (or group of tabs) from one profile to another? I tried with drag and drop but that's not working.
-
You will need to Open a new Feature Request.
You can refer to the Flag also.Existing ones are just related to New Window instead of Instance.
-
@rhk Try drag & drop into the address bar. Also I didn't get what you mean with "one profile per client active", but ok, doesn't matter.

Hi,
There's a Flag:
vivaldi://flags/#mix-browser-type-tabs
But seems to not work.Drag to the Address Bar, works, but seems to reload the Site to a new Instance instead of "move the Tab" with any filled formulary data, Post or similar.
Didn't test to move in bulk after that.

@npro I work for different clients (companies) and I have one profile for each client that I'm working in to keep them separate for the following reasons:
- Easier to navigate than just different windows in one profile when you have many windows and tabs
- Allows to be logged in to the same websites with different user-id's at the same time (Wix, Shopify, etc.)
Yes, dragging a tab from profile to profile into the address bar does work but not moving a tab or group of tabs from one profile to another.

These things are also possible with an extension like Sessionbox. Kinda like Firefox's containers, if not the same.

@npro Thanks for the tip about Sessionbox. However I try to avoid additional extensions due to privacy concerns. I would prefer to have that functionality natively in Vivaldi. I'll post a feature request.

@Zalex108 Thanks, will do.

@rhk Talking about sessions, if it’s a large number of tabs (i.e. this method saves you effort instead of adding), just saving the tabs as session, copying it (through file manager) and loading it from the other profile could work (I don’t know if there’s some data that would break this).

works like a charme. I've "tested" this (unintentionally) with a session from my work pc. even the tiled tabs are recognized

Why not just distribute a bookmark or a folder of bookmarks? You could simply make a list of internet addresses in a text file, for that matter.

good idea. or only sync notes (with the URL) with the other profile, if you don't want to have alle the bookmarks in the other profile @rhk
-
Another option to share the Bks would be:
- TeamSync Bookmarks Extension.
-
@rhk moving a tab across session contexts is impossible for good reason.
Same with "Private Window" and "regular" tabs.Easy to see why with the example you gave:
- tab for Client_1 with content/cookies/websockets
- move tab to environment of Client_2
Result: state chaos, data leakage, dogs loving squirrels, etc.
