UI suggestions after a day of trying.

Make sure that you have the latest snapshot to keep up-to-date with changes or we may be talking at cross-purposes.
I could not find any button taking space behind the address bar. I eventually found a button to show/hide the panels at the bottom left of the workspace. That's useless for me because my panels are on the right, and the panel toolbar is normally enabled.
I have assigned shortcuts Ctrl 1-5 to open the panels: bookmarks, email, contacts, downloads, and notes. They will also hide the panel when I am done. I prefer to leave the toolbar there too, for access with the mouse, though it's really not necessary. In Opera 12.17 I don't have that, just while I am learning Vivaldi it may be useful.
I don't see sites getting compressed on opening the panel. They just shift to the left. Hiding the web content by overlaying it would be more annoying in my opinion.
Custom thumbnails for speed dial tabs will surely come in time. Someone already provided a tweak to allow it if you want to waste time editing code. I would recommend just waiting for it to be implemented.

Since english isnt my native language I have a hard time finding the right words describing tech-things.
You're right, sites shift to the right in my case and background pictures adjust to the new size, but that's exactly what I dont want them to do. I want the panels to hide the web content. I wouldnt like to have my start menu on windows opened all the time either.
Sure thats not a big deal. I just thought suggesting such an option might be interesting for some users.
Anyway thanks for the reply and your opinion. Have a great day.

If you want to check, here's how you edit the SD thumbs.
And your suggestion for the panels as an overlay is interesting, especially as in heavy pages the animation is jagged.

Note that Opera 12 does have a "Floating" option for Panel position.

@an_dz Thanks, I'll give that a try as soon as I get home!
Got to install CS4 first and create some fancy icons.@pesala float like in HTML? Cant follow you atm
Appreciate all your replys, this seem like a nice community yet.

/edit:
Does anybody have the same problem? I cant open links, like for example if I get send one in TeamSpeak 3, I click on the link and nothing happens.

Floating, as in not docked to any side.

That's not what the OP is looking for, Vennrx is looking for the panel to be attached to a side but it floats over the page and not compress it. Like Windows taksbar when auto-hide is enabled, it goes over the content and don't compress the screen area.

A floating panel can be positioned wherever you want it to be. When it is not open, but not focused it hides behind the current tab. It also appears on the Tab Bar.

I like this idea

And I hate it. So options, options. options is what makes the world go 'round.

You got it! I understand that this option might not be liked by everyone, but that's why it should be optional.
My Browser (or my PC in general) should work like I want. Adjustable to my personal needs and wishes.
I dont think many people have their address bar attached to the top and tabs to the bottom, but that's how I like it.A floating panel might be a solution, but not what I am looking for. I wouldnt want the context menu to compress the whole site just because I want to access "Help > Community".
