Left-side tab stacking
-
Hi, I haven't heard about this problem lately (but, then, I haven't checked every posting . . . ), but I was wondering what has happened to the inability of tab stacking when the tab bar is on the left-hand side. From the right-click menu, I can choose "Group Similar Tabs to Stack", which works, but it's not possible to drag-and-drop a tab to form a stack. Will this be eventually fixed? I suppose so, but I just wanted to check. Cheers, Ryo

In order to stack tabs click on the icon on tab (for example red v on this site's tab) and drag and drop on the tab you wish to stack it with. To reorder tabs click on text (ex. Vivaldi.net - Vivaldi Forum - …) and drag and drop wherever you see fit. Really great idea. Works for me in 1.0.196.2 both Linux and Win 7. It would be good if there were a black line in between tabs when dragging and, say, grey line or whichever that shows inactive tabs in a stack, over the tab when grouping.
I hope this helps. Sorry if my English is that bad. That's why I gave you those examples.

Amazing - that does work, but ONLY IF YOU GRAB THE ICON. Clicking on the bar can move the tab, but cannot stack it.
Learn something every day.

It actually works if you just grab the tab too, but you have to drop it onto the icon.
This is a good compromise between easy of stacking and ease of moving tabs. In the old Opera there were some users who complained that stacking tabs was too easy to do accidentally.
Like so many things in life, it is easy to do when you know how.

Thank you for the information! I didn't know that!

Is that really? That accident never happened to me when using Opera.
First of all, why doesn't that restriction apply when the tab bar is horizontal? I mean, when it's horizontal, you can stack the tab even if you don't drop it on top of the icon of the target. Why should the stacking behavior be different depending on the location of the tab bar?
In fact, I don't think the current behavior is good. When you grab and move a tab, a bright blue (or any other conspicuously colored) separator should appear between the tabs where the tab you are currently grabbing would be inserted if you release it there. (Um, I'm not sure if my description is clear, but I hope everybody knows what I mean.) In this way, the absence of the blue separator would mean tab stacking and its presence means insertion (tab moving), and accidental stacking wouldn't happen.

Ryo
