Amazon Prime Video - HD is not available anymore (since last Vivaldi Update)

Since the last Update to Vivaldi 2.4.1488.35 (Stable channel) (64-Bit) i can't watch videos on Amazon Prime Video not anymore in HD (only in SD-Quality).
Newes Update to 2.4.1488.36 didn't solve this problem, too.
In Google Chrome 73.0.3683.86 Amazon HD Prime is still working for me.

Same here at Vivaldi 2.5.1504.6 (Official Build) snapshot (64-bit) on Linux, tested with UAgent Chrome 73 does not work either.

Strange, Firefox 66 UA does not work but Chrome on Linux does not work either.
Edge and Chrome 73 work on Windows.

After reading the german bug report, the issue is there is no license for the prime video HD under Linux. Yes Amazon have blocked HD for Linux via DRM, so that is why.
I suggest people stop their prime video subscriptions because of this, its a real stupid move on amazons part. Perhaps there will be a 3rd party work around to get it working sometime from someone but it won't be legal.
Prime Video HD only works under WINDOWS and CHROME / EDGE browsers (and maybe firefox).

Hello.
Today I wanted to see a video in HD at amazon prime using Vivaldi.
But I got the message from amazon, that my brows is not actual and due to this fact I cannot see the video in HD. On the machine is running: 2.6.1566.49 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
I waited some minutes to see if the browser change the video to HD, but there was no change.
Vivaldi is running on the actual Win 10 machine.
I then used Edge( not(!) the chrome based).Is this another issue then here discussed or is this something new?
If this is the same issue as here discussed, will this issue be fixed?Best Regards

Can we get a clear answer? It's not possible to play Prime HD videos in Vivaldi?

Tested with version 2.8.1664.44 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Clearing cookies for Amazon Prime & setting the UA string to latest Chrome version will allow full HD playback for the first video played upon a fresh login to the service. Any subsequent playback will have a "Your browser does not support High Definition playback (...)" warning popup and the user has to repeat the whole process again.
Two points I'd like to make;
- This "solution" is obviously not sustainable.
- Ignoring the problem presented in this thread and pointing any new threads on the subject to this empty one isn't a solution.
This browser is becoming a lot more polished and it's feature set is very unique, unfortunately I don't see it gaining any serious traction if technical problems of this magnitude go unanswered for months.

@lmiemus Amazon Prime's browser sniffing breaks every new version of Vivaldi. They refuse to allow themselves to be used with any but their target browsers.

@rafiki It's geograhpically-influenced, and may also differ from one hardware/driver combo to the next.

@rafiki Past episodes have shown that more users have trouble with Prime HD outside the US than inside the US, or even more in Europe than in the UK. Hence, the user's IP is also being detected. Users outside the US also receive different versions of the Amazon Prime HD website. Other past episodes have shown that even in the US, while everyone else gets Amazon Prime just fine (I've never, in over four years, had a problem with it), Some people with particular kinds of hardware would have a problem, would spoof the UA, and then the problem is gone. So Amazon is feeding different streams to different browsers as well.

@rafiki I don't know Amazon's policy for sure, but I DO know there are frequent instances of both websites and OSes treating a new update of Vivaldi as a completely different product from the non-updated version. I don't know why Vivaldi in particular, but I do know it's a problem.

@Ayespy Exactly. For "geograhpically-influenced", they have a "thing" called Geo-blocking and alongside with browser sniffing a discrimination. poor us?

Hi, I never can see a video on Amazon Prime in HD but do not get an error message.
Amazon stream with 1.17 GB per hour, this is not HD.
My old China mobile cant play HD but the new one can because they pay Widevine L1 licence fees now.Opensuse Tumbleweed x86_64

@Ayespy Appreciate the response. It seems to be the only (and easiest) way to get this resolved is for the dev team to speak to Amazon directly then & I'm sure everyone would like to know if they refuse to assist in fixing the problem -- even users that don't actually use Vivaldi.

I have contacted amazon as its clearly an issue their end.
With latest chrome I get error 7031, so doesn't play at all.
Amazon's help page for that error is one of the most ridiculous I have ever seen, it is a specific error code yet is a generic help page, its clear its generic as it has dumbo supposed fixes such as clearing cache, rebooting etc. The sort of things tech support people say just to get people off the phone.
I did a live chat and it was a unskilled monkey trying to fob me off.
I rang them it was the same.
I then raised a complaint with the advertising regulator in the UK, they are considering the complaint and in the meantime contacted amazon (passing on my details).
I then got a call from someone in upper management in Amazon EU HQ. He too tried to fob me off, I told him to take a breath and think for a moment, he is trying to tell me my browser cannot play HD video yet I am playing 4k on youtube and HD works on netflix. I asked him to take a breath and repeat what he said. Instead he didnt repeat and said the problem would be reported to their technical team. I told him the problem is more then likely over aggressive DRM mechanisms, I said end of the day if you wont let me watch the content legally I will get from elsewhere. I was then threatened as if I was threatening to kill him. I reminded him copyright law prevents distribution in my country but not watching it, plus I reminded him I never said I would obtain movies illegally, I just said elsewhere. He apologised gave me 12 months free prime and we ended the conversation.
This was over 3 months ago and nothing is fixed. One of the most bizarre conversations I have ever had with a management type person.
In regards to Vivaldi at least that actually plays prime content, so actually for me works better than Chrome., but I do get the HD upgrade message after the first video like others are reporting.
These issues are likely related to DRM in one form or other, content creators can get out of control with DRM and it looks like that is starting to be the case with streaming services. Maybe Vivaldi is blacklisted from HD because they dont trust Vivaldi as an entity, it wouldnt surprise me.

Chrome can.What makes you think browser-makers have to pay fees to Amazon for their site to function? That makes no sense. Chrome has 3/4 of the browser market and if their browser did not work for Amazon that would be a huge problem for Amazon's income.
Let's be honest, these sites don't care an iota about anyone wanting to use a "non-supported" browser. Unless you're on the big ones like Chrome, Edge, Safari and maybe Firefox, you're just an insignificant statistic to them. This is of course a big frustration for companies like Vivaldi, who make a perfectly capable browser but the users are left with the impression that Vivaldi is somehow broken for not working on these sites.
