How to use Chrome Remote Desktop
-
This seems to be an app designed for Android... from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.chromeremotedesktop
"Securely access your computers from your Android device."
Can it be used on Vivaldi? or any other Win/Linux/Apple desktop (chrome/chromium) browser?

I am frustrated as well to not be able to use Chrome Remote or find an equivalent for V. I have to use it a lot for my elderly mother who lives in another state... and is technically challenged. In order for Chrome Remote to work you have to have Chrome browser because it expects you to be logged in to google to use it. The Android version is dependent on the Chrome Remote Desktop version to work. The only work around is using Windows Remote Assistance and inviting someone or you get an invitation to work on their computer. Sending a file attachment, using a pass code, a couple of yes's/ok's later and your in...very big pain. Anyone have something better?

@JanineC why not use TeamViewer? It's free and doesn't try to run in a browser. Personally, I think running a remote desktop in a browser is kind of a terrible idea.

- I followed @Gwen-Dragon's suggestion, and wrote to Vivaldi support. Here's the answer:
- [Chrome Remote Destop] Is a Chrome specific app, so no, Vivaldi will not support Chrome Remote Desktop, because it requires a Google login, which we do not support.
But according to a dev, Chromium should be able to add some code for this app to work on Chromium and browsers based on it. So who knows, maybe one day in the future you can use this app also in Vivaldi.

- @JanineC I was about to suggest the same thing. You may try also RealVNC, I used it. It's powerful, but maybe more cumbersome than TeamViewer. If you have to use CRD, like I do, then there's no choice...

@greybeard tl;dr: Chrome YES. Chromium: NO. It will work IF the device you are trying to see has a browser which supports CRD. Since CRD support is NOT included in Chromium and its forks (eg: Vivaldi) you can use it only with Chrome.

TeamViewer
Thanks for the suggestion, sounds great, but can't seem to find anything free, looks like a monthly subscription is required.

@JanineC No. Simply download it and run it. It is free for private use. There are different pay plans for commercial use.

May be Vivaldi has no license key to use the Google Services API.
Or perhaps the Vivaldi Team does not want to open that can of worms (using the Google Services API).
One of the reasons I chose V is not to have Google Services looking over my shoulder all the time. -
Chrome remote desktop is a very good remote desktop tool which is used for remotely accessing computers much similar to tools like logmein, R-HUB remote support etc.

Hello, guys!
It works for me on Elementary OS Hera.
I had just install chrome-remote-desktop_current_amd64.deb after installing the web app. -
I don't like a remote desktop from Google, use teamviewer
it slows down sometimes, but it's a comfortable usability. -
@peterross Teamviewer is best but I do use Anydesk, Absolutely no issue with the software. Very lingt weight and easy to use.
