Deleting history and cache?
-
I've been using the browser for a few hours now, and have yet to be able to figure out how to do this. I've searched this forum and no one else has mentioned it. So did you forget to include this... or is it just hidden somewhere non-intuitive? And for those that may comment that this is a 'preview', I'm a Linux developer (distro dev), i understand that concept. Broswing history and cache deletion are two things that are extremely fundamental to a web browser. I get how advanced features of those can be added in later, but not to include those in the settings menu at all... is downright shameful. We can block 3rd party cookies and delete cookies... but we cant delete our broswing history? Really?

I second this. Clearing browser history is pretty much basic feature.
Certainly do love see the features that Opera browser abandoned but this is important too. -
Right now you can manage or clear cookies under Settings, and clear History, Cache and Cookies under the History button on Speed Dial.
-
And I'm sure it's just an oversight, but this is a browser topic, and you have opened it in a community feedback category, which is specifically labeled as "not for the browser!" (and so the topic has been moved)
-
you delete it where the speed dial, and bookmarks is. that is where it is in middle of them too. hope this helped

Open the History button on the Speed Dial page, and find the "Clear Browsing Data" button.

I haven't tried that with the latest version but it didn't work for me with the previous version, nothing happened, I had to go to
vivaldi://chrome/settings/clearBrowserData
…..more options too. -
Good to know. It doesn't seem to work in this version either. I had never tried it. Just knew where it was.
-
It works for me.

Here in Win 8.1 64, with Vivaldi 32, current snapshot, I didn't want to get rid of my cache or passwords, so I checked boxes to remove history and cookies only, and it didn't remove either one. It didn't do anything.

I needed to delete cache, I had a problem, and download history, that worked so I assumed everything might work, goes to show I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but I didn't try anything else.
Win 8.1 64, with Vivaldi 32, current snapshot here too. -

Just to be sure, I went back and tried again using the same settings that you have, and it worked fine. But on that note:
I had to go to vivaldi://chrome/settings/clearBrowserData …..more options too.
On Win 7 64-bit, Vivaldi 32-bit, navigating to Speed Dial>History>Clear Browsing Data takes me to that page.

Hi guys using V on Ubuntu 14.04 and to accelerate loadup time I wanted to make sure no cache remained
so using vivaldi://chrome/settings/clearBrowserData as suggested earlierand then placed in bookmark bar under "Clear Vivaldi" so i must remember to do it most times on leaving browser
but surely there must be a way to access the info where vivaldi://chrome/settings/clearBrowserData is changed so to make this permanent ….. anyone knows where in the files it might reside thanx shan
PS when we all know a bit more will be good to add info to wiki page

Where are the files for cookies and cache? I have not been able to find them to do:
A little script to start Vivaldi that first deleted the cookie and cache files (or cp blank ones) would be nice until a
real delete on exit is implemented. -

Don't know about cache.
-
The Cache folder is located in the same Default Directory – User Data\Default\Cache
-
OK. That's totally weird. I have no file in that folder named "Cache." I wonder what's up with that?
Edit: OOPS! Silly Me! I was looking for a file, rather than a folder. There is a FOLDER named Cache with a ton of files in it.
Again, Oops.
-
My bad, forgot to mention it is LINUX.
-
As best I can tell, make sure you have View/Show Hidden enabled in your file browser.
Then cache is in home/(user)/.cache/vivaldi
and
History and Cookies are in home/(user)/.config/vivaldi (or vivaldi-snapshot)/DefaultI personally had no idea how the linux directory structure was laid out until I looked this up, so I hope it helps you.

""Then cache is in home/(user)/.cache/vivaldi
and
History and Cookies are in home/(user)/.config/vivaldi (or vivaldi-snapshot)/Default""/home/xxxx/.config/vivaldi/Default/History is the browsing history and deleting it does clear history.
The Cookie file in the same directory does not seem to have any effect.NB:I also realized that I want the browser to go to my home page when it restarts, rather than the last page visited.
More searching.
