Vertical tabs
-
Placing tabs on side is horrible. Tabs shrink, trash can and new tab buttons take too much space. Was it intentional to make it work this way? Have you any intention to improve it? Can you take a look as an example at my extension? This is how I imagined vertical tabs should be. It's for Opera 29+ (sidebar in beta or dev). https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/vertical-tabs/ https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/simple-vertical-tabs/

actually, I like visual tabs no matter where they are. So I like how it's done and I can imagine only a few things that I might use. (sure that someone - just like you - can prefer your idea)
For example "shrink" them that only favicons are visible (a small square tabs) with tab preview and without "X" button.

https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/simple-vertical-tabs/I, too, would like the option to have tabs with no thumbs, even though I personally like visual tabs better. My habit in old Opera was to always use visual tabs on the side. Since that was the only browser in the world where this was possible, I think the intent here was to identify with old Opera right out of the gate. I am sure the option to do vertical side tabs without thumbs will also be offered, just as it was in old Opera.
I did like your vertical tab offering for Opera, and installed it as soon as it appeared. But though I think that's a valid way to do it, and it should (and will, I'm certain) be offered here as well, I actually prefer the visual tabs and am looking forward to those being improved here as well (better differentiation between them, ability to adjust their horizontal size, less height on the text portion of the tab, drawing the thumb when the browser first opens rather than waiting for the tab to be clicked on, etc.)

I'm not saying that visual preview is not valid by any means. I'm just disappointed that there's no scrollbar. When tabs meet minimum height, it should start to scroll and not shrink in infinite. At some point when you have around 50 tabs you can's see anything anymore. This is my point.

Ah. Yes, you may be certain that scrolling or an extender menu, or both, will be offered. The infinite squishing of tabs is in no way the ultimate intended design.

Ok. Good to hear, thanks.

Awesome! Scrollbar is here!
Now the remaining points: Trash bin icon could be placed to the side of the new tab button and pinned tabs could be always visible. Probably I will be switching to Vivaldi, since I see faster progress here than in Opera.
You already have mute tabs and Opera folks have it incomplete and only in developer version. Good job guys
