Cannot play ABC iView videos
-
Hi all, I recently decided to hop back over to Vivaldi to see how much it's changed, and I have discovered that I cannot play ABC iView videos. Please see the screenshot for the issue.
Broadcast IP for best WebRTC performance and the Flash and Widevine plugins are enabled.
ABC iView uses jwPlayer to play their videos, which works on Edge and Chrome, but not on Vivaldi.
Looking at the console, the jwPlayer plugin links to their error codes list, which says for error 246000:
An error occured while reproducing content with our Shaka Provider. A miscellaneous DASH-related DRM error occurred.
Please note that if you wish to test for yourself, ABC iView may not work unless you are located within Australia.

When posting errors please post the URL so others won't have to type it in manually from a screenshot, it's not nice.
https://iview.abc.net.au/show/diary-of-an-uber-driverI'm getting the same error page in Opera + Firefox as well. But I'm in Europe of course
They guys aren't very good at making informative error messages are they?
This issue has been logged with our technical team for investigation.
Yeah right. I wonder how many sites actually have people look at these errors :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Check if you're accepting third-party cookies from the domain
gigya.com
, it might be required. -
@Gwen-Dragon I can confirm the widevine content decryption module is version 4.10.1440.18 and there is no new updates found.
@Pathduck The bug exists for any videos and streams played on ABC iView, so specific links do not matter. The error code is the same code on JWPlayer's error code list, so I believe the issue is with JWPlayer.
As for cookies from
gigya.com
I have tested with all domains allowed in uBlock Origin and disabling the extension completely, and in Private mode to no avail. I see that in the network activity tab in developer tools that it is able to connect togigya.com
successfully.I have found this test site that uses the MPEG-DASH scheme that I think the JWPlayer plugin uses on ABC iView, but interestingly the video is able to load after disabling the adblocker.

Decided to try googling for
246000 jwplayer fix
and I found a troubleshooting guide from ABC iView and it basically says upgrade your browser or operating system. However I am already on the latest stable build (2.7.1628.30) and on Windows 10 Home v1903 and I can't think of another solution except use another browser just to watch ABC iView.
Curiously the latest snapshot 1640.3 gives a different error code: 102630
The JWPlayer error codes says that there is no file to play, and ABC iView's troubleshooting guide asks to contact their support team.I will be contacting ABC iView's support team and hopefully they will not tell me to switch to another browser.

@ant8672 Did you try to use a user-agent switcher?
https://help.vivaldi.com/article/user-agent-spoofing/Support will probably just give some boilerplate reply about "improving the user experience" and how they "support the latest web technologies." But might be worth a try.

Tested on w10 1809
Here works on
- Chromium edge beta/canary (77-78)
- Chrome beta and canary (77-78).
- Edge(Html)
- Firefox
Fails with
- Chromium 76
- Vivaldi 2.7 Stable (chr76)
- Vivaldi 2.8 Snapshot (chr77)

I try with Linux Mint 64bit, nothing works, not Vivaldi, not Firefox nor Waterfox. I try also with Andorid (using PaleMoon with option desktop view) and don't works.
Cuold be a site problem as with a brief research I found that they have same issues in the past. Anyway @ant8672 if you want to write ABC support, here's the link. -
Checked with https://iview.abc.net.au/show/diary-of-an-uber-driver

@Marko-Indaco Already submitted a technical issue form. Got an acknowledgement email and information that it will be reviewed but not all contacts get a reply back.
Works for me on Opera GX 62.0.3331.132, Chrome 76.0.3809.132 and on Edge.
I have tried the extension User-Agent Switcher and Manager as recommended by the Vivaldi Help article with Chrome and Edge user agents but no luck.
It is weird that it works for some and not for others.

Decided to take another look and I notice that the cause for the error is probably the error 403 forbidden for https://wv-keyos.licensekeyserver.com/, in which the Preview tab of the Network Activity shows:
errorid: "cc9dd607-e6a1-4f17-9068-5b2fa6ab7f29" errormsg: "Widevine license acquisition failed >> Verified media path has been tampered"
I have attched the HAR with the appropriate JSON snip. One of the many iView's js files is the one that requested the connect to licensekeyserver.
200 OK, Chrome
403 Forbidden, VivaldiI now think the issue is either with the Widevine plugin in Vivaldi, though it is up to date, or on iView's end with the licensekeyserver request only allowing other browsers and not Vivaldi.
At least we can now rule out jwPlayer!

licensekeyserver.com redirects to BuyDRM.com
BuyDRM's about page says that they have BBC iPlayer as a client, and I think they may have the same issue as ABC iView, as ABC is pretty much the same as the BBC.Can someone please confirm if this issue exists on BBC iPlayer?

BBC works for me
Checked https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0074scz/life-on-mars-series-1-episode-1on both Stable and Snapshot (although I am on Linux not Windows).

I can not check the video.
The link requires login or register. -
Update: iView's support team has gotten back to me with instructions on how to enable 'allow sites to play protected content' & 'allow identifiers for the protected content (computer restart may be required)' under Site Settings > Protected Content.
I was not able to find these settings under vivaldi://settings but found them in chrome://settings and using that chrome settings page (note: not vivaldi's settings page) to navigate to Advanced > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Protected Content, to which I found out that both were already enabled.
Trying the same page/url
vivaldi://settings/content/protectedcontent/
in Vivaldi's settings page does not show the Protected Content section, meaning that this setting is only accessible by the built-in chrome (chromium?) settings page. The built-in chrome settings page, accessed by
chrome://settings

Hello there,
The support info is correct.
chrome://settings/content/protectedContent
Some strings needs to be prefaced by chrome://, however, the Address Bar shows vivaldi://
Copy and paste the string posted here. Your string has a typo -
Hi there
Using Vivaldi 2.7.1628.30 on a completely updated PC with Windows 7 and also on a Laptop running Windows 10 v1903 build 18362.329.
Identical Vivaldi setups on both machines.
I've been going to another site for a long period of time that also uses the jwplayer. Recently I have experienced trouble with it.
It works with both Firefox v68.0.2 and Vivaldi v2.71628.30 on Windows 7.
It works with Firefox v68.0.2 on Windows 10 but NOT with Vivaldi.
I thought I would share this strange behaviour as it seems to indicate that Windows 10 is involved somehow.
Maybe this will help narrow down the problem. -
@BillyBootlace What is the site? Also it would be much better to open a new thread for a new site with issues.
-
This post should be tagged as resolved. The ABC support gave him the instructions. Check the number of replies, Lilo.

Same here. So even with that the problem still remains...

Hi there
In regard to my original post .....- As the old joke goes ... if I told you the site I was visiting then I'd have to kill you.
- It was not actually about that particular website (ABC iViews) but about what might be causing the problem as it was also affecting another website using jwplayer. I thought they may be related.
- I thought my observations might help solve the problem.
- In the end I tried a new pristine profile which worked. Then I added the uBlock Origin extension which caused the player to fail again. Obviously something has been added to one of their lists that the particular site I visited didn't agree with.
- I'm still not sure why it worked on Windows 7 and not Windows 10 though.
- I'm now trialing Adguard to block ads instead on uBlock Origin and everything is working fine. Problem solved for me.
