New Vivaldi snapshot with Chromium 41 and auto-update on Windows!
-
Hi y'all, This week's big news is an update to Chromium 41. It has been merged into Vivaldi for this snapshot build. We've also enabled first implementation of auto-update although it's only available on Windows 32-bit so far. There is still a lot of work to be done before it is completed, but the basics are now in. https://vivaldi.net/en-US/blogs/teamblog/item/16-new-snapshot-with-an-update-for-chromium-and-auto-update-on-windows //Christian - Vivaldi Technologies

Problem with plugins VLC does not open in the browser window but remains in the background, blocks the possibility of using properties files windows

BUG: With the advent of Chromium 41, the search results tab at https://aivitals.co.clark.nv.us/WebPIInternet/ no longer gives a reliable hard crash of the browser - but it still doesn't work. The results tab, when it appears (in background), never has any content. Not-crash, good! Not-work, bad! Thus endeth the bug report.
EDIT!! I take it back!! The page works so long as there is not too long a time out on results. If, for instance, there are about 10 pages of results or more, the result will seemingly never appear. If you wait and wait and a result never appears, and then you restart the browser, the result will be there. If, on the other hand, you have been smart enough to narrow the search the few results you get will appear on the results tab right away! So all that needs fixing is the insanely long lag on receiving too many pages of results.

And here is a new BUG: is anyone else experiencing the oddity that to get context menu on a link, you have to click on it twice? First right-click does nothing. Next right-click get you the context menu.

Did something misfire somewhere? Currently, the "Latest Snapshot" download link for v.1.0.135.2 on the blog page simply links back to the blog page itself:
https://vivaldi.net/blogs/teamblog/item/16-new-snapshot-with-an-update-for-chromium-and-auto-update-on-windows
I tried it with Opera 12, Vivaldi (prior snapshot), and Firefox 36. -

Yes, same here. Also having to click twice to copy highlighted text.

I tried it with Opera 12, Vivaldi (prior snapshot), and Firefox 36. :unsure:Yes, it does this. And then you scroll down to the list of versions, to click on the one you want.

Perhaps my understanding is obtuse
, but under the box: "Get the latest version of Vivaldi", there are two entries: "Latest Tech Preview" whose "Download v.1.0.118.19" text links to https://vivaldi.com/#Download , and "Latest Snapshot" whose "Download v.1.0.135.2" text links to https://vivaldi.net/blogs/teamblog/item/16-new-snapshot-with-an-update-for-chromium-and-auto-update-on-windows – which is simply the Teamblog page itself. And the download link on that page is exactly the same: https://vivaldi.net/blogs/teamblog/item/16-new-snapshot-with-an-update-for-chromium-and-auto-update-on-windows . So clicking the download links just take me around and around and around back to the blog page...
My apologies… indeed it was my obtuseness! I've been downloading a lot of software for another system, and forgot that in the case of Vivaldi, the download links are indeed embedded part way down each team blog. Sigh... a mind is a terrible thing to lose... :S -

1.0.135 destroys Adguard!!! unistall it and reinstall 1.0.129 and be happy again

Totally loving the favicons-only bookmarks bar. Totally. Loving. It. Right size favicons, right amount of padding, each favicon is on a little tiny tile, which both lends consistency and provides contrast backing for the default bookmark placeholders. Yes.

Because of the no-longer-extant hard crash in the bug most recently mentioned, and the favicon-only bookmarks bar, vivaldi has earned permanent default browser status on my machine.
MAKE NO MISTAKE - there are a number of things that need to be fixed up or added (by far not the least being inbuilt email client) but, as it stands, there is NOTHING any other browser currently available provides that Vivaldi does not do BETTER for my purposes in its current iteration.
Examples:
Vivaldi has side tabs without having to add an extension.
Vivaldi does favicon-only bookmark bar without having to add an extension.
Vivaldi has tab previews without having to add an extension.
Vivaldi has (uniquely, heirarchical!) folders in Speed Dial without having to add an extension.
Vivaldi has customizable interface with toolbars that may be revealed or hidden or positioned in multiple locations (need more, and more cusomizable placement), unlike any other browser.
Vivaldi has native notes without having to add an extension.
Vivaldi has completely editable (needs a TON of polishing) bookmarks without having to add an extension. These were the things I used Opera 12 for. These are the things no one else has (w/ exception of bookmarks management), thereby earning the very rough, rudimentary and early-stage Vivaldi my blue ribbon.
Keep in mind, kids, EVERY ONE of these features which requires no extension reduces the memory and processor footprint of this browser, making room for greater optimization in terms of efficiency and resource management. Yes.

I would add middle mouse click opens new tab on that examples list.
Every time i open browser on some other computer, and try to open new tab, my first thought is : what is wrong with this mouse, why middle mouse button is not working? And then i realize i am not in vivaldi and have to click plus sign . -
Really bad snapshot, I am just happily returned back to build 1.0.129.2. The last update has unresponsible menus and I was unable to close some tabs, esp. some internal pages (plugins etc.) - the same bug I saw in some very early builds but was not present until now so this is regression… Working on Windows XP SP3 32-bit...

I agree 100 % plus It works heavy not fast, demanding a lot than 129 135 is the worst version of vivaldi I unistall and reinstall 129 too. but we should keep in silence because the vivaldi lovers will invite us to go out here like them are the owner here. write note Sajadi that wrote: If you feel unhappy with Vivaldi, you are free to leave. or Pesala that wrote If you don't wish to help, that's OK too, Use Yandex or IE to do your browsing. If you want a better browser, then please provide some constructive feedback instead of just complaining.

Internal pages has a know issue where it can't be closed with any keybindings, this has been fixed I belive. No harm going back a few versions to get a more stable default browser, hopefully it will be stable enough next week for you to default the newest version

I'm finding this most recent snapshot to be much more fluid (Windows 10 TP build 10041, Surface 3 Pro 8/256). Kudos!

1. Before it starts happening next Monday (for those of us using the 32-bit Vivaldi version), what is an outline of how auto-updating will work? How "automatic' will it be… that is, is this a no-user-intervention updating, or is it just the enabling of the manual check-for-update function under the Help menu entry?
2. Will it automatically update all subsequent versions after/including 1.0.135.2, or just for those versions within the Tech Preview 2 family?
3. Will there be any way to readily revert to an older version after auto-updating (assuming the new version causes too many problems), or will complete re-installation of an older version be needed?
4. Before it is upon us, is there any way to block the auto-updating functionality in the 135 version, and if so, how?
