Please help adding proprietary media support. Linux Manjaro-i3

I've just switched my Linux of choice. I was running Manjaro XFCE, now I'm using Manjaro i3.

My problem is this: under the previous install (Manjaro XFCE) I was able to follow the latest instructions to enable proprietary media and H264 support etc. namely I would start vivaldi from the terminal and then I simply pasted the given curl script into terminal and voila! suddenly everything's funky.

I've now got a problem using Manjaro with i3 and the i3-sensible-terminal. Now when I start vivaldi from terminal I get this:

No suitable library for HTML5 proprietary media (MP4[H.264/AAC]) was found,
therefore only open codecs will play.

To add support for proprietary media, issue the following command and restart
Vivaldi:

Can anyone please tell me what's going on? What do I need to do to fix this? Thing is, when I went through this process on my previous installation it was completely error free. So I know it works in principle. Presumably it's something weird happening at my end?

You need vivaldi-ffmpeg-codecs

@Linu74 umm... not trying to be unhelpful or dismissive, but in fact the reason I ended up following the instructions on the vivaldi community page was precisely because it avoided any need at all for these repos and all the various compilation/packaging issues therein.

Nope, my earlier 'fix' and desired outcome here is to again let vivaldi do all the work. It really was that simple to just run a small script, let it configure a symlink and bingo! all my video replay working (youtube etc) and never a need to go near one of these hefty packages.

Was hoping for some direct help with the error message posted above

@alan9990 Weird.
If Vivaldi misses the lib a message is printed on the terminal.
What happens if you type?

@lamarca aah! well, I added curl - that was correct?

I get the following message

I'm not at all averse to saving it locally and installing it, but again the last time I did this successfully it just updated everything for me in the one script. However, no error messages as such although not yet completed.

@alan9990 M fault. I forgot the specify to use the Address Bar. Anyway, the Deb file exists. The issue must lie on the utility.

@lamarca since you posted I ran a test.

I have a laptop here running my previous setup i.e. Manjaro XFCE. So, I installed vivaldi, then ran the terminal command as suggested.

This time, the script - the SAME script - executed perfectly.

So... drum roll... I installed xfce4-terminal here under i3, ran the same command, and this time - it completed!

I've just gone to the wiki link for the media test page and voila!

So thank you - without your input I wouldn't have thought to do any further testing.

Sorted for now... now have to head-scratch a bit in i3, see what's up

@Linu74 Nope.. not for what I need I don't.

Just fixed the issue, and loading the test page, the browser now plays H264 and HTML5 - which is all I need really for Youtube etc.

I have a media player for music, and I don't do streaming or such. So, it works for me now and, importantly NO external packages.
