Arrow keys to select search engine feature broken in latest version.
-
I updated to the latest version (2.4.1488.35) of Vivaldi for Linux (ubuntu) 64 bit and the ability to select the search engine (from the search box) using the arrow keys has been removed. That is to say, in past versions one could toggle between the added search engines to select where a search went using the arrow keys. This is no longer possible.
Is this in error? That was--in my opinion--a critical feature. I use a relatively even mixture of DuckDuckGo, wikipedia, wiktionary and SpanishDict for hundreds of searches per day, and needing to click on the drop-down arrow each time to switch is infuriating.
Developers: Will you fix this issue or reimplement it, or at least implement an option to toggle the functionality? I can't continue to use Vivaldi without this functionality.
Thanks,
James

@climblinux Bug in Stable, but fixed in Snapshot (2.5)1497.4.

Huzzah!
-
same issue here with 1488.35 on Kubuntu
-
@Gwen-Dragon no it is not solved. I was hoping that it would be ultra-fast but the latest update neglected to fix this problem.
-
@Gwen-Dragon I am actually going to go to chill with firefox for awhile while they work this out. My hobby is spoken-language learning and I can't work effectively with this search engline selection bs clogging up my information pipeline.

this issue is still real with 2.5 stable (Kubuntu 18.04)

Simply as a workaround, as this is a keyboard action, could you use the Search Engine Nicknames to select the desired engine?

@TbGbe engine nicknames don't work in the search box
-
@TalGarik But they work in the url bar. As I said, just a workaround suggestion.
-
@TbGbe absolutely, but if I use the address bar I lose the web address of the page where I am even if I am getting the search result in a new tab, that does not happen using the search box. Of course there are workarounds - personally I use Vimium and I have set all of my engines in the Vimium bar, shift+o and I get what I want - but then what is the point of having a search box? the issue is especially annoying when @ruario had said that it would have been fixed in 2.5 and it seems that is has been fixed in Windows but not on Linux.

I understand, but if you opened a new tab first? Or used F2 command with the shortcut?
However, I agree a workaround isn't as easy/automatic as if the bug did NOT exist. -
It also doesn't work on Windows. I hoped it will be fixed in Vivaldi 2.5.1525.43 but no...

Make sure you don't have any of Caps Lock/Num Lock/Scroll Lock on. It's those that make the keyboard not working on the search field.
-
@iAN-CooG You were right. After disabling Num Lock it works. Previously, it worked even with Num Lock on. Thanks for your helpful advice.
