Remeber last Download location - Ask where to download [Bug Help]
-
I don't know if it's bug or not. It seems to be. [Using 64 bit version] Was working for and hour or two and everything with saving was going well. Then suddenly after downloading one zip file (download initialized by java-script pop-up) I can only save to one location (Download system folder). Browser always now dump me back to Download folder. I can't save to the last destination. It's highly infuriating and until resolved V is auto-disqualified as a browser. There are no options to pick Download folder, remember last or to ask for user action. Like the-only-true Opera or FF/Waterfox, heck even Tor. Help guys!

Well problem mitigated slightly. Tested it today. Whenever browser is started always open 'Download' folder when first save is performed.
If image is saved it keeps last location. If some other rich media (zip/movie) V dump them straight into Download and I cannot help it (even when I choose Disable auto download). Opera have nice options which manage downloads with extensive MIME management and allows user to pick directory BEFORE download commences. V is outright infuriating. I will try to keep in mind right click, but it doesn't work for at least few pages I visit. Once again golden oldie O 12 is superior to brand new spanking browser. I really didn't see that one coming.
I know V TP is just a TP, but if very old Opera had MIME management since very early versions I see no reason why V is so primitive in this department.
Oh and one more thing about downloading. I configured keys like in O (Z/X for back/forward tab). When I save something on a tab (e.g. image) Z/X doesn't work because Windows Explorer (after saving) doesn't auto release control over screen - Vivaldi is kept inactive until clicked on the browser window. Very uncool. I know one particular browser which doesn't have such problem… Do you know by any chance which one?
I try hard to give V chance, but hideous head of Chrome/ium/-idiocies-hydra always comes to the top at one time or another.

Vivaldi is another company, the team have no access to Opera code as it's owned by Opera ASA. They are just 25 people against the thousands of Opera. If old Opera code was owned by von Tetzchner maybe he would continue the work on Opera code, but he does not and so Vivaldi must work somewhere else.

You basically said the reason right there yourself - Vivaldi is pretty much just a preview at this point, meaning barely an alpha. Basic features are missing, bugs are present, nothing is really optimized properly…that's just what using one of the first public previews of an entirely new software means. And you're even using the even more experimental 64bit version.
And - again, like you said yourself - there's indeed no option to have Vivaldi ask for a save folder. The only way to do that right now is by using an unofficial hack, so don't be surprised that it doesn't work as you'd expect. I guess you've found some of the reasons they had for not even allowing the user to choose where to save for now, as basic function as that might seem.

You can try to read in this thread: Option to save downloads to specific folder
I made the change and it works properly. -
