Random Crashes when using "Find in Page"
-
I use "Find in Page" (CTRL+F) quite a lot to zero in specific lines of text. I've noticed since the last update that when using Find the entire browser will crash randomly sometimes. I can't pinpoint an exact cause. I'm just going along then press CTRL+F to go to the search box, start typing, and then Vivaldi just disappears and I have to reopen it. This happens maybe 3-5 times per week.
Has anybody else seen this happen? I'm not really sure how to go about troubleshooting this since it's sporadic.

@thx1200 A problem was reported for using Find in Page with large PDF files, viewed in a tab with the plugin. That should be fixed now.
Specs: AMD A10-6800K, 8 Gb on Win 10 64-bit build 17134.407 • Snapshot 2.2.1373.4 (64-bit)

Same thing happens here, sometimes a few times a day, I am a heavy browser user with a lot of critical tabs open, and use ctrl+f a lot, it can cause some serious productivity problems for me when the browser crashes.I have multiple profiles open, it only crashes the current profile.
Am in Ubuntu 16.04LTS, the browser window normally grays and halts, sometimes midway through opening the find box, sometimes will then close with error report option, other times will stay gray and unresponsive until force closed.
currently: 2.3.1440.41 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
p.s. not just pdf, standard html is normally where I am..

Newly seeing this in v2.3 (not the more common freeze, which is another thread and since resolved, but an outright crash) on Win10.
It hasn't happened enough (three times, two days) yet for me to draw any conclusions.
I'm disabling Ctrl-F for now, since it's too easy to use it without thinking.

@rseiler Happens to me as well, occasionally. When searching on regular pages (I think it was on Wikipedia last time).
-
This crash appeared to me twice in the last two days. Before and after the latest stable update.
-
@Komposten Correct, I amended my post about it tying to internal pages, since less than 5 minutes after posting, I did a Ctrl-F on a normal web page, and boom, crash. So it was just a coincidence.

Both both cases some iteration of 2.3, right?

Yes, on Linux x64. Each time, I reopen Vivaldi and am able to do the same search with no problem.
@nestorion said in Random Crashes when using "Find in Page":
the result pane shows as "0 of 1" (so it found 1 and shows no result?)
I think it now numbers the search string itself as #1. Which isn't great behavior.
All this might be a Chromium problem, but I've found V. 2.3 to be regressive in a few ways, including much of the time the extension icons not showing their flags correctly.

@JeanCremers I highly doubt that's going to help given the number of people talking about this in various places, but do report back if it does, since that would be very surprising.
The fix here is to disable Ctrl-F. 100% success doing that.

Happened to me few moments before with Vivaldi 2.3.1440.48 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

I have crashes on find in page since the latest release version, which i didn't have before! Reverted back to 2.3.1440.37 thinking i would get better behavior but still crashes, gonna try clean install.
As far I know Vivaldi.2.2.1388.34 is without this "feature" https://vivaldi.com/download/archive/

@zendar True, but you can't really go back, unless you backed up your profile. Well, you can, but beware of potential weirdness.

Same problem 2.3.1440.48 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Win-7 Pro 64-bit -
Same problem. I downgraded to 2.3.1440.41.

I submitted a report on this and sent along the .dmp file. Until we hear otherwise, I would suggest others do, too. Perhaps they can triangulate something from the .dmps.

Don't hold out great hope for that one, considering that .45 and .48 have the problem, but I suppose it's possible.
