How do I select the search engine for adress bar?
-
With the latest snapshot, vivaldi got the option to disable the search box (getting rid of this useless thing was long overdue imo). Coming from chrome, I expected to use the adressbar like chrome's omnibox, where I type the first letters of a search engine I want to use, then <tab>and then the things I want to search for. There seems to be some kind of settings regarding search engines in the adressbar in the vivaldi setting, for example you can add new engines and assign a letter to each of them, much like in chrome. But when I actually type "g" (letter assigned to google) or "w" (wikipedia) and press tab, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?</tab>

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, it's the same with me so the search box still has it's uses. There are other things included in these snapshots that don't work yet so it's my guess it's what a Technical Preview is, a work in progress where not everything's been inplemented yet. Just an assumption on my part, maybe someone will say the key letters work for them.

Yes, it should be space instead of tab,
but still, its not working for me either, if i put "d Vivaldi" it still searches with google, and i get google results for "d Vivaldi" . -
Thats still not working though.
Also IMO it would be best if it worked like in chrome, where it indicates which search engine you are using, not just leaving "d vivaldi" in the adressbar but replacing it to "duckduckgo: vivaldi" -
To quote the blog post where the latest build was published …

Search keywords fails
Nice to know we're all reading what we download before we update. :p

Yeah, now its working.
I like its working with youtube by adding https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=%s to letter j.

ok thats working now.
But still, it remains very counter intuitive. There is no visual indication that I am using a different search engine. Having just "d motorcycle" in the adressbar is weird.
The adressbar should make me confirm that I indeed want to use a different engine and am not just searching for the letter D on Google.. -

The adressbar should make me confirm that I indeed want to use a different engine and am not just searching for the letter D on Google..The visual intication is present on the search bar, and is useful because can be used by mouse only (especially when pate and go/paste and serach will be implemented).
Instead, if you are using the initial letter, supposedly you know what are you doing.
So I can't understand your point
