Notes get duplicated by themselves, causing slowdowns
-
I've come across a very weird issue recently. The last note I had taken had been copied over a little over 210 000 times (I used the Notes file and a text editor to count these - good thing that it's in a readable format). The Notes file was a little over 50 MB in size. I don't know how that happened, but it was causing significant slowdowns (i.e. a newly opened window would hang at a blank state with the Vivaldi logo in the centre for ~5-6 seconds). I don't know how to go about reproducing the issue. It might have something to do with Sync. If someone has an idea how, let me know. Otherwise, interpret this just as a heads up.
P.S. That's on Windows 10 x64 (build 18214 as of now), it happened running the 1.16.1259.3 snapshot and the latest stable (1.15.1147.64) side by side. I don't know if it's platform-specific.

@gwen-dragon Just saw all my notes (they were 8-10 in total) duplicated once with 2.0, but again, I can't see a pattern to be able to reproduce it.

@gwen-dragon Did You mean that issue
VB-40888
is marked as resolved?...@killchain Do they include attachments / screenshots?

@killchain Do they include attachments / screenshots?
Some of them do, yes.

- Watch out! Some clones are not true duplicates but broken (or outdated) ones! Here's a script to find which notes are duplicates
I struggle with similar problems in 2 groups of machines.
In my case majority of duplicated notes are very long ones and some of these which got attachments.
But herds of long notes without attachments seems to grow faster -
@killchain The notes duplication issue has only been fixed on Snapshot builds. This means that if you are running any 1.15 stable build and have notes with blank titles, they will get duplicated.
If you have switched all your Vivaldi instances to use snapshots, or see this happen with notes that do not have a blank title, then it is probably a new bug.
-
@julien_picalausa I'm currently using 1.15 stable along with the latest from the snapshot channel, so if I get that correctly, it's 1.15 that's causing the bug?
Also, how should I read "notes with blank titles"? Are you talking about the note's text content itself? All I see is the "Note" field with the attachment buttons above it and the "Address" field below it.
-
@killchain If the "title" to a note is the first line of the of the note, or is the entire note, it is probably "without a title." When notes was first implemented, the body of the note WAS the "title." If you right-click on a note and select "rename" from the context menu, you can give it a name independent of the content. That is now the title. There is no visible title field you can edit. You just have to do it in the notes panel itself.
-
@killchain Yes, 1.15 is known to cause that bug.

I still see this from time to time with the latest snapshot (2.2.1388.21), although by far not to the extent seen before. This time is a little different - instead of one particular note getting duplicated thousands of times, I get several different notes duplicated once or twice. I use the snapshot in conjunction with the latest stable version.
