Possible Bug at Dailymotion
-
First thing first, I wish to thank Vivaldi team for their great effort, you successfully made a great browser.
The issue:
Using Vivaldi I ran into this:

Wish this will be a minor issue that will be solved soon. -
@ahmadabdelazizm In every case I came across, this is not a bug in the browser, but bad browser detection on the website.

Thank you for your quick answer, good to know this is no bug. Now is there a solution to this?

You can try a User Agent Switcher extension and change user agent to Chrome or Opera and it works.
Or open dev tools (F12)
"vertical 3 dots menu" on the right, More tools, network conditions;
on User Agent uncheck Select automatically, then select some other Browser.
F5 to refresh the site and it should start playing.
Too bad I've experienced some video at 480p or 720p with artefacts on top or even badly rendered with diagonal bands.
Probably there actually are some issues with that site's videos. -

Yes, use an UA switcher and disguises Vivaldi as Chrome or Firefox. But in any case it is convenient to contact the DM administration so that they look for another webmaster
-
Changing the UA to Chrome for Windows fixes the issue.
I submitted a report to the web site.

Probably there actually are some issues with that site's videos.I want to add that I had Use Hardware Acceleration disabled in settings, enabling it (and restarting Vivaldi) now the videos are rendered correctly at 480 and 720p, of course setting any other User Agent than Vivaldi's. They should really remove the stupid UA sniffing.
Some video apparently is playing without changing UA, for example this

I got an update:
Thank you for your report, we are currently working on this behavior and hope to fix it as soon as possible. Please note that it might take a few days before the fix is deployed on our site.
We'll get back to you as soon as the fix will be available only. -
@ian-coog Another Handy trick, thank you as always.
-
@pesala Appreciate your effort not just to help me but the rest of this good community. This community was a major factor in my decision to switch to Vivaldi.
Also once again the new Vivaldi update came with practical feature that is helpful and easy. Another reason to stick with Vivaldi. -
Support at DailyMotion Replied to my ticket on Thursday March 14th 2019
Hi,
Thank you for your patience.
An update has been deployed on Dailymotion, and your issue "cannot watch videos on Vivaldi" should be solved now.
Don't hesitate to email us again if you still have any issue on this feature.
Best regards,
Elisabeth -
@Pesala I still get the "sorry" error, Vivaldi 2.4.1483.4
-
@Gwen-Dragon that's not a fix but still a dirty workaround, means they haven't done anything about it.
-
Out of curiosity I retried now and I can't even start playing any video on dailymotion even by faking different user agents. Seems that latest snapshots even got worse on that site.
For example
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x378nnt
plays perfectly on Firefox 65 but not in Vivaldi 2.4.1483.4, even faking FF UA.
I also tried in a private window, and removing Flash dlls so Vivaldi doesn't see them on restart, as I knew dailymotion favourited flash over html5 in the past, so I just tried that.
After faking UA the play button appears, but it doesn't even react on clicking it.
Oh well. -
@iAN-CooG @Gwen-Dragon VB-###### ?!?
I also opened a ticket with dailymotion technical support.
Is there a bug report in progress on Vivaldi side ? -
Ppafflick moved this topic from Vivaldi for Windows on
