Vivaldi is taking up too many resources….
-
I'm working on a laptop with an Intel Core i7 processor. Since your last update to the version 2.0 Vivaldi is taking waayyy to many resources. The processor usage is almost 50% on load just on warm start up. The average processor usage is about 30-40%. I can't even type in a web address because the browser freezes. For comparison, Edge is taking about 15 to 25% at most.

With my sys specs, last Vivaldi and open 11 tabs
What extensions do you use? -
@catweazle LastPass, uBlock and Followrio for gaining instagram followers.
-
@szakisz ublock or ublock origin? maybe ublock consume too much ram.
With shift+ESC you can check it in the (chromium) task manager. -
uBlock can't be the cause, similar to the nano Adblocker I use.. Lastpass (with sync you don't need really) and Followrio I am not shure-Try to deactivate them
I think it should be related to this, otherwise it does not make sense that there is less CPU usage on my old laptop (more than 10 year) -
@catweazle Could be the GPU process, but the card used is not specified (maybe is an integrated one or one which is in the blacklist)
-
@hadden89 ublock and ublock origin plus. I don't think any of my extensions is a problem here. I opened vivaldi task manager. There is a proces called: "Vivaldi: page in the background (or something like that, I don't use an English version). The values go crazy when I type something, the fans go on and the browser freezes.
-
@hadden89 No, it's definetely not that. I've been using Vivaldi from Day 0, no problems before.
-
@szakisz Ok then, so you know V
If you hadn't the issue with previous version -- maybe it's a bug.
You could try a standalone version of the "old" snapshot which worked.
Just to know where issue is.
(Assuming you are on snapshot, of course).
You also don't use flags, do you? -
@hadden89 No, I don't use flags, and I'm on stable builds only.
-
@szakisz Security software may be inserting its fingers. I just downloaded and updated my Stable to 2.0 on my old core2 duo laptop (32-bit) with 3 whole GB of RAM. With 14 tabs, it reached as high as 79% CPU on open, and then settled to between 11% and 20% depending on usage. This old rig isn't even breathing hard. RAM is hovering around 50% including all open apps.
I suspect more is going on than just Vivaldi.
-
@ayespy Is there an option of quick rolling back to a previous release? I wanna see if this would work somehow.
-
@szakisz You can, but it's not a solution. There is no official procedure for it, but if I wanted to do it I would uninstall the current version, rename the User Data folder, install the older version, and then transfer critical data from the old user data\default folder to the new one. Just critical data - not the whole folder contents, and NOT extensions.
Rather, I would explore the possibility that security software had become paranoid about the update, (seen several cases of this with the 2.0 update) maybe install a standalone of the new 2.0 and see if it faces the same difficulties; and/or refresh your profile.
-
OK, I will be fighting and reporting if I find something. Please, don't close my thread.
-
@szakisz Not a chance. We are not close-happy here.
-
OK, I've just refreshed my profile and in clean Vivvaldi the problem is gone. Now, I start slowly moving my stuff from one profile to another just to see where the issue really is.
-
@szakisz That's the stuff...
-
On my i5 laptop I am using far less resources, even with its 21 processes various extensions and some Flags set, using the latest SnapShot (2.1.1328.4 (Official Build) (64-bit)).
-
The problem has been solved!! And it was ridiculously easy. I did full scan with Bitdeffender - nothing. I checked once again with Malwarebytes - nohing. I even delete over 70 gigs of trash-data... and nothing...
Finally, I cleared browser data on my default profile.... Please, don't make a laugh on me xD
Anyway, thank you all for your help, time and patience

No worries, there is nothing to laugh about, au contraire, this thread could be useful for future reference if someone is searching for a solution to a similar situation.
