Can't login to any google services
-
@ayespy Tried it in all three modes (Single user, all, standalone) with new profiles, installed to my C:\Program Files\ directory as well as C:\ (drive is an ssd), just using windows defender (same issue with it disabled), reverted all Vivaldi flags with no change. Even tried running it as admin, no dice. Windows 10 Pro 64bit up to date.
I went and installed Vivaldi.1.15.1147.42.x64 from the archive page and it works fine, although it uses the old version of the google sing-in page when it logs you in. If you upgrade from that version it will keep you logged in until you are prompted to sign in again (like when you install an app through the play store).
Should add that google works fine on FF, Edge, Chrome, Chromium, and Brave for me.

@catweazle Since every other browser works (especially Chromium-based ones) it's most likely something Vivaldi changed causing the issue.
-
@standpipe Not necessarily. It obviously requires a combination of factors because only a few users experience it. That means it's not JUST Vivaldi, but Vivaldi+(SOMETHING), but what? For instance, Google has borked its services in the past for certain geographic areas. Where are you in the world?

@standpipe said in Can't login to any google services:

Yes, it is strange, but Vivaldi is not like other Chromium and in other posts are reported conflicts with certain installed security programs that do not exist with other Chromium browsers.
The first idea was that Google itself discriminates against Vivaldi with its Browser sniffing (what in the new Google Sites format it still does), but then I and others also had logging problems, which is not the case. -
@ayespy Of course there is a conflict of some sort, but it is clear the new version is the main culprit as old versions and other Chromium browsers work as expected. If every other Chromium browser works, as well as incognito mode, there is something in the main browsing mode that is broken but only making itself known in very specific situations.
I'm in western NY.

@standpipe Well, Europe or Eastern Europe has traditionally been the Google no-fly zone. So I would say it's not that. I read elsewhere on line that some were having the same trouble with Slim Browser when it updated to Chromium 69. So it's something Google did, but we can't tell what, yet.
I suspect what will ultimately solve this is user logs from users with the problem, OR, there will be minor update that updates the Chromium version of 2.0, and it will vanish like magic with no cause ever known. Site Isolation has prevented Google sign-in in the past, and it's standard now in 69, but I haven't seen evidence it's a problem elsewhere, outside of Vivaldi. Real puzzle.

@ayespy
There may be a clue here. I could not sign in to GMail as such from Vivaldi (freshly installed or old or with/without addons). But I could do this on incognito window.As @Standpipe said, other browsers works just fine with add ons included.
As an after thought, I have checked my Google security settings and found Vivaldi is granted full access. Snapshot attached. But I have to add this - seeing Vivaldi mentioned as a separate app which is granted full access is something I do not see for other browsers such as Firefox. So somehow GMail or google is treating Vivaldi as a separate app which is causing this ?
I am using latest snapshot on Win 10
2.1.1317.4 (Official Build) (64-bit)Thanks

@hari-cu That's interesting - why do they have to single us out as though we were not a browser?
-
@hari-cu I believe this was for account syncing, you can remove the access and Vivaldi does not ask for it back. Also Chrome is shown on that page, just as a Google app with access, not a third-party app.
-
@standpipe Interestingly, My Vivaldi was only granted full access to my Google account TWO DAYS AGO (without any intervention from me), while the Vivaldi mail client shows as having been granted access in March of 2017. Whut?
-
@ayespy
I myself do not remember granting this access myself. Something happened automatic by itself? But why not other browsers listed such as Opera, Firefox or Brave which I use?
Its good to see whether all those reporting issues with GMail or google access has this list as Vivaldi singled out.
Meantime I will try what happens if I deny that access and then check.
Thanks -
@hari-cu Good question.
-
@hari-cu If you remove access and then sign in, it shows full access for Vivaldi again.
-
@ayespy Again, Chrome is listed on that page if you use it just like Vivaldi, except it's not under 3rd party apps as it's not one. And my Chrome entry says it was given access yesterday night, so it's most likely listing the last time it used access.
If this was somehow the cause we wouldn't be able to log in in Incognito mode as the process looks the same to Google.
EDIT: Actually this might be the issue as it appears that Vivaldi accesses this during normal browsing but not during Incognito browsing.
-
@ayespy Not if you log in under Incognito on my system. So the question is what is Vivaldi doing with that access and is that where the bug is?
-
I found a fix!
Open Vivaldi://flags and change "Identity consistency between browser and cookie jar" to "Enabled Dice (fix auth errors)"
This lets you log in and does not restore Vivaldi to the "Third-party apps with account access" page in your google account settings.
-
@standpipe You're awesome dude. Nice find!
-
@standpipe AH! That is a setting that only works in Chrome! (It's what lets Chrome 69 log you in to Google and vacuum up your data, without your knowledge or consent.) I wonder how that has ANY other status than "disabled" in Vivaldi? And I wonder what the "default" setting for it is? (I have found that some Vivaldi installs have different "default" settings for some security entries, somehow).
Here is a relevant Chromium bug: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=860471
And the status of that bug is: "WontFix."
-
@standpipe And Vivaldi does not have the Chrome code that makes Identity Consistency work as spyware. Hence, if it tries to log you in with DICE, it won't work.
-
@ayespy Tried every option in that entry and only the fix auth errors one works, not sure what the default was.

I can't log in unless I set it to "Enabled DICE (fix auth errors)" so I'm not sure what you mean.
