Can't login to any google services
-
Ok, thank you for the suggestion @mib2berlin - still no luck.
Issue:
- I've reinstalled vivaldi twice
- I manage to login to google with firefox, chromium, chrome on the same laptop
- I manage to login to google in vivaldi on a different windows laptop with vivaldi sync (same account on both laptops)
- I've tried deleting the default profile directory
- Deleted all cache, history etc.
..still I can't login to google - "something went wrong.."
WTF can the problem be??
What is stored on this laptop when I remove Vivaldi? -
@torgils The entire profile in most cases. Re-install is always a waste of time. The problems are in the profile.
-
@Ayespy , yeah, just deleted the Vivaldi appdata directory. Suprise, no changes.
I just noticed that when I tried to login to the community in Vivaldi. The Vivaldi saved password that I changed earlier today, was not accepted.
I closed Vivaldi and reopened, then with the same password I was accepted.Could my problem relate to the saving of passwords in Vivaldi?
Since I've reinstalled, and deleted the profile directory it's not likely..
..but there has to be something!? -
@torgils Did you enable Sync in the new profile before you tried to login to Google?
-
@torgils It's an environmental issue, but darned if I can think what it might be.
Security apps come to mind, proxy connections, things like this.
-
I'm not sure why, and it might have been because I had page actions on, but I've been trying to sign into my main google account only to get a redirect to an "unknown error" where it says "something went wrong there" no matter which way I use 2 step verification. On top of that I can't even make a new account either or sign into any other account (school email). I've tried deleting everything (cookies, cache, etc.) from vivaldi. Even uninstalled and restarted twice. None of these solutions worked. I'd also like to point out I'm signed into that account on vivaldi on another computer.

@crasher308 You're the second person to report this, and no tester or developer has yet been able to reproduce it. (I for one have tested it on multiple machines with multiple Google accounts.) We don't know why it's happening. I wonder if, for instance, you have activated the strict site isolation flag in your browser?
-
@Ayespy I just checked the flags but I can see strict site isolation is disabled. It's definitely very weird I even installed a random browser to test it but sign in worked fine on the same PC. I'll try to keep looking into it.
-
@crasher308 Do you run any 3rd party security software?
-
@ayespy I do run Avast Antivirus, disabling it hasn't worked, but I can try restarting with it disabled. Although my laptop runs it as well
-
Unable to log into any google accounts after the V 2.0 update. Vivaldi has become completely unusable.
-
@ayespy unfortunately, that didn't work… but I'll keep an eye out and investigate
-
If it helps at all, I did try to sync my vivaldi account to begin with, and as I mentioned I had some page actions on while I was signing in which created a weird effect for the google sign in sliding animation (basically slid into view and did it again). Only extensions I had were ublock origin, ublock extra, grammarly and kami. Getting rid of those from reinstalls had no effect.

..but there has to be something!?Dude i had the same issue when registering to Vivaldi community. I wasn't able to login after just making an account. It weirded me out, went to reset password, and it still didn't work. Got annoyed, closed Vivaldi, tried to login the next day and it worked....This is so weird and crazy. BTW i managed to login to google services but in a private window. I tried all other solutions just like you did. Tried to using a email syncing addon but it wont sync Gmail, outlook syncs just fine.

I made my own post about this after the fact, but I figured I found one more thing out that was interesting. I went on the laptop I originally had vivaldi on and grabbed an old version of it. I managed to install it on this PC which I can't login to google with and I managed to login with the old version. However, when I updated after logging in it asked me to login again and gave me the same issue. Maybe it has something to do with how google is recognizing the new browser? Honestly on the desktop I'm better off using the old version until a fix is found.
-
Okay I finally fixed it on my end, but you do need an old version of Vivaldi to get this to work (possibly?). I went to my google account settings and removed access for vivaldi in the apps that have permission (although i'm not sure if this is necessary). I then went to the executable path found in vivaldi://about and deleted the entire Vivaldi folder, installed the old version of Vivaldi (mine was Vivaldi.1.9.818.49), signed into gmail with authentication, and then updated Vivaldi and I was still signed in. Now hopefully I can sign in on my laptop that I removed access to.

Glad it worked for you, it didn't worked for me, and it's not really a solution. If you logout you probably won't be able to login again, if you want to use a new google service that you currently don't use and want to login it wont work, if you occasionally love to clean your history and cookies this method isn't viable. This needs to be addressed by the devs (if they care). Till then its RAM hungry Chrome for me.

Yes. I had same issue too. When I try to log in I get “Something went wrong” error message. I have reported it here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/30433/gmail-error-fresh-snapshot-2-0-1309-25-official-build-64-bit
But I could log on with incognito mode. I am hoping someone would find what’s going on.
Thanks -
Seems, that my issue with login to digitalocean using google SSO is related to this issue. I create issue on vivaldi bug tracker. Waiting for fix.

Same here: When I try to login to google it shows
"Something went wrong
Sorry, something went wrong there. Try again."
Vivaldi blocks Google sign in for some reason.
