Twitch playback issues
-
High quality streams, i.e 1080p 60FPS at high bitrates around 8000+ Kbps or higher, do not play well. I'm experiencing frequent micro freezes/stutters.
Also, switching between multiple streaming tabs causes a momentary freeze in the stream before it resumes playing.PLaying the same content in Firefox is much smoother.
Anyone experiencing this?

I can only tell about having had the same experience on Youtube. Vivaldi UI's animations cause dropping frames in HQ 60fps videos, and Hardware Acceleration makes things even worse for me, but that's probably related to the gfx card used. I have a cheap nVidia GT 710.
settings/Appereance, disable "use animations"
settings/Webpages, disable "use hardware acceleration when available"
if not enough, also disable it in flags.

yea, the GPU isn't the issue here, I have GTX 980. There is a clear performance gap between Vivaldi and other browsers and I find myself switching back to Firefox for so any reasons.

AFAIK it is some combination of twitch and chrome incompatibility with HTML5. Vivaldi does not use the GPU on Twitch, so all decoding is done by the CPU (again as far as I was able to determine). I have tried dozens of different obscure setting changes to see if it helps, and none have. I have a mid/high end GPU but a pretty low-end CPU.
As iAN CooG pointed out, disabling "use animations" helped a lot with windowed playback, as apparently the little sound icon in the tab caused some of my stuttering issues for all video. I still have some Twitch problems specifically though.
