Get/view images from our Vivaldi cache?
-
When we visit websites, the website files and images are downloaded to our Vivaldi cache. Is there a way to get/view these cached images [such as .jpg and .png] from our Vivaldi cache?

@tsunamiz Try Nirsoft's ChromeCacheViewer (Nirsoft.net). You may have to manually point to the DriveName:...\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Cache folder. (Under File options.)
-
You used to be able to type vivaldi://cache in the address bar, but that doesn't seem to work in the latest snapshot.
-
i tried ImageCacheViewer v1.20. and manually pointed to my vivaldi cache folder and it didn't find anything.
-
@tsunamiz Can you see anything in Windows Explorer or Cmd and CD to the folder and see anything with Dir?
-
@gwen-dragon ah. I don't use it often, so didn't realise it had been removed.

What you could try is to use the inspector. This wouldn't let you get every item in the cache, but you could download some of the resources from the page you're currently on, if you have no other way to do so:
- Right Click the page
- Inspect
- Open the application tab
- Look at the left under "frames"
- Pick a resource
- For images you can then right-click and save
- For others (such as fonts) you can right click the entry on the left and "open in new tab" to download them
-
using Windows Explorer doesn't work because the vivaldi cache is stored in special vivaldi files. but i do want to get the cached images out of the cache like i'm using Windows Explorer.
-
the inspector feature won't do. i want to be able to get the cached images in bulk, as if i'm using a file manager like windows explorer.
-
@tsunamiz I presume you have enabled View > Hidden Items in the [expletive] ribbon (I am not a fan). And I suppose no results from the Command Line?
Perhaps an alternate like Midnight Commander (https://midnight-commander.org/) would more useful than Explorer? -
here is a screenshot of my vivaldi cache in windows explorer. as you can see, the files are a special type that we can't use...
-
@tsunamiz You have to view the file list in ChromeCacheView.exe, then you see the image (or other) file types listed and can double-click to open them in your default image viewer. It is far from being user-friendly, but it does work.
-
@tsunamiz If you have set a link to a viewing/editing programme in the "Send to" folder ignore the instructions below:
- Use the Windows Key + R and enter the following: shell:sendto
- Once there, Create a New Shortcut to the photo viewer/editor (I use IrfanView or XnView but you probably have your own preferred programme).
That makes all the rest easy as you can just Rt Click on a file and send it directly to the viewer/editor. - Now adjust your Explorer to show file "Details". Not sure where it is in your version, probably under the little downward triangle on the upper right or in Organize. Mine is under the View menu.
- Next sort by File Size to more easily find a possible image. Forget about the files named "data_*", highlight a file you think is an image and Send to...
Otherwise:
If you use something like IrfanView as a photo viewer/editor it allows you to navigate right to to the Cache folder as shown below (the Default Windows viewer and XnView do not) and view files if you have the Open filter set at All Files (.) and If you set it
Once you find something you want to keep, Open and Save As...
I hope I did not make this overly confusing.

i figured out my problem with the cache viewer. i was using ImageCacheViewer, which didn't work [even though it should]. instead, i had to use ChromeCacheView, which works.
-
@tsunamiz Great! Glad to see you can now do what you need.

Vote for Cache Filter like in Opera 12.18. It is a powerful feature that lets you filter by file type and/or domain. Even Jesus has already voted for this one. (~_~)
