Block Bitcoin Mining Malware
-
My system was infected with a bitcoin miner weeks ago. I didn't install any program and the only answer is: Vivaldi has some flaw. I use it all the time. Fortunately, I was able to remove this ramsomware with Malwarebytes.
Example, this site has a crypto mining script and Vivaldi doesn't have any way to block it:
http://www.cstore.com.br
Meanwhile, Opera browser displays a warning.

In Windows I use Anti-Webminer (also in GitHub)(Open Source) that protects the PC and all the browsers that I have installed against Cryptominer scripts.
There are also extensions in the store, for example Anti-Miner -
@catweazle aren't the uB0 NoCoin Filter List enough? another program that basically does the same thing already inside uB0? seems to me kind of a waste of resources.

The easyprivacy filter list has the known cryptominers well-covered.

As seen in this thread, the author of this has been infected by a malware miner. I guess he also uses an adblocker that evidently has not prevented it.
uBO and therefore also the nano Ablocker, which I use with an anti-mining script, but I do not think it's a waste of resources to carry a few bytes script more specialized in the system that is also active if I do not use the browser.
I use a lot of internet, shure as most of us,, and some bad experiences in the past have taught me that it is not superfluous not to trust only a single lock -
To me Sophos antivirus home (free), did a great job removing bitcoin miners from my mac! Not really sure how good extensions are in detecting miners, in my opinion a good antivirus software is more reliable solution.
-
The antivirus that I use for sure also detects it, but I think adding some filter, like the one mentioned that occupies few bits and does not need resources, although it only discovers 1 bug more than the AV and the Adblocker, has already amortized its existence
Maybe I am too cautious with these things, but the network is a jungle and one sometimes learns by the hard way -
Has anyone been able to verify that the website installs malware or that Opera 53 shows a warning.
I visited the dodgy site in Vivaldi and got no malware, and visited it in Opera and got no warning.
