Vivaldi Browser - functionality that would be nice to see and bugs that would be nice not to see ;)
-
It works like editing the name of an iOS folder (I think the same in Windows?). Pretty straight forward and clean.
-
1. In Speed Dial new created page have url for description not page title like standard one (and you can't edit them only delete). [EDIT: OK, you can change it on bookmark page, but will be nice to can edit it on Speed Dial page (yep, I'm lazy :D)]
no issue here, you can edit it on speed dial, just pay more attention
Thank you! But still think that browser should take description for page from title not url
Ok two more things:
1. When I close tab I want go to to the left one not last used tab.
2. HUGE BUG: When you open setting and close browser (without close setting window) and next close setting window when you try open browser again you have only setting window -
I agree, while I never used sessions because I don't share my computer I used something similar like you explained.
I also have the constant need to save things which I need to open or read again later, I used plugins like Read it Later and similar. I think sessions is a similar idea, the point is you don't want to save them as bookmarks but just need them temporarily right?
I think we all do this eventually, its basically a reference. We need information but only for a specific task, so it does not fit into saving it as a bookmark.
Bugs in my case:
*** No option to disable the password manager. It keeps asking for passwords.
*** Zoom in, out, reset shortcuts are not existent. This would be like in all other browsers, Ctrl+, Ctrl- and Ctrl0. They don't work. I guess they call them quick command but at least Ctrl scroll wheel works for zoom functions.
*** Windows titles - On Windows, the active tabs does not exposes the target window name to other softwares in Windows, this means other softwares that need to detect an open website or fill things like password managers will not work. Its just Vivaldi for all tabs. Not using the page title.Missing features
*** No pin or lock tab
Hell I need that, I sometimes are loading something which takes minutes in some webapp and I don't want to close it by mistake. Locked tabs is something I miss.
*** Private or porn mode. No, I don't use it for porn but for web testing since it does not save cookies and data, I use it for temporary testing things so its not saved to the cacheWhat I would like to see:
Let us create contextual searches on text selection, like to a translation page, or search somewhere. Can't remember which browser has this, but it lets you create your own contextual options for querying anything you want when a text is selected. You can then fit it to what you use the most. So when you right click a selected text you have the options available. -
For zooming in and out on keyboard, you can use + and - on numpad, without the Ctrl. However, it's definitely broken, as it sometimes zooms the page even when you're typing into a text area - for example on Google Plus. (Also, on some pages like G+, using Backspace in a text area actually takes you on a previous page - not so convenient )
And the private browsing function will surely come - if you right click on a link now, you can already see an option to "open in incognito window". It just doesn't work in this preview build.

Typing numbers in text boxes sometimes zooms or jumps to another tab (or both) as well.
-
You are right, without Ctrl it works. Zoom in and out works, but reset?
The problem with this approach is that its broken, you need a shortcut activation key. Let me make an example. If I want to zoom this while I write or have my cursor inside a form field like this forum box, and hit + it will actually write the key in the post +++++ you see? Its not zooming but typing.
This means I would have to click outside this comment box somewhere in the browser and then press + which is annoying. This is why its done with Ctrl + in other browsers. I don't want to take my hand off the keyboard to zoom in/out which I would need to do with this approach. So its broken. Its should be with the Ctrl key like in other browsers.
I did also noticed a bug which is more nasty.
Ctrl Tab does not correctly change/cycle from tab to tab, it sometimes goes to another tab back and forwards without any apparent reason, in particular if you do it fast enough. It seems to be related to how the UI is build, because while the browsers works fine in my system, its a big lagging, and some other users in slower systems say its slow. Ctrl Tab and fast switching tabs you will surely notice tons of lagging in the software. Opening new tabs seems to lag a bit as well but nothing unacceptable.
I'm starting to wonder if they made the right decision which choosing what ever technology they did for building the wrapper. But like you said, its a technical preview, I have real hope things will improve.
I was just testing the bookmarks and speed dials and they are amazingly well build.

Typing numbers in text boxes sometimes zooms or jumps to another tab (or both) as well.
And it will cause that, because the browser has no idea if you are typing the key or want to trigger the zoom feature. This is why like I said in my previous post it has to be activated with another key and this is normally Ctrl in most browsers.
Its a bug if you ask me. + or - alone should type the key not be a shortcut by its own.
-
terere: You didn't need to explain to me that it is broken, I've already agreed/stated it is It's just that you said "there's no shortcut for zooming", so I've mentioned one way you can currently use keyboard for zooming. Yes, it's quite broken and I'm pretty sure this is not at all how it's meant to work, but for now, this is the only way to zoom using keyboard.

This is a very promising browser that I will follow closely. I have a strong faith in these people(and the team).
I like that there is an "Opera style" panel that offers Downloads, Notes etc. What I would like to see here is Links, just like Opera 12 have, and, of course, the option to filter all the links on the active page.
I hope this will be implemented as well.

Hello,
Vivaldi is indeed promising! I have high hopes, as a "refugee" from the Presto-Opera land
15. Add tab-stacking for tab-bar in vertical mode.
16. Add option to disable tab preview when using the tab-bar vertically (display only the title like in horizontal mode).Yes, please! In addition, when the vertial-mode tab-bar is on the left-hand side of the window, I'd like the page preview displayed to the right of the tab on mouse hover, not to obscure the tabs below or above it.
The vertical tab-bar is very useful, because I often maximize the browser and my monitor is much wider than it's tall so that there is huge waste in the screen real estate on the left- and right-hand sides.
