"Opening" audio files always downloads them.

When I click on an audio file at a web site I get a window that offers to save, save as, open, cancel. I always click 'open'. Vivaldi then always 'saves' anyway. Then proceeds to open audio player to listen to audio file. I then have to go to folder and delete the file.
why doesn't vivaldi simply open the audio file rather than save it? Why give the option if it won't really do it?

@astro46 It is physically impossible to open a file without saving it. If it's not saved in the Downloads file, then it will have to be saved in a temporary folder. Save As.. will let you save it somewhere else, e.g. in My Music.

@astro46 just to reinforce what @pesala already said, whatever you see in the browser it's actually downloaded and viewed from your HD. Then some files are just in the browser cache, some are in the download directory. If anything, Vivaldi lacks an option of delayed deletion of files when the user have selected Open instead of just Save.

In this particular instance, I was clicking on a link in email, from google voice, about a voice mail message. link is labeled 'play message" Vivaldi goes to the google voice site, where there is another link that says "play". clicking on this link leads to downloading the file and then opening the audio player to hear message. I then have to manually delete the downloaded file after listening to it.
If I copy the "play message" link from email, paste into firefox , it takes me to the same google voice page, but shows an audio progress bar, and immediately starts playing the message.
so, firefox has audio playing capabilities coded into it, that vivaldi doesn't have? If so, I guess I need to add this as a feature request.

@astro46 We do not know why it does not play.
But can you give us a link to such an audio to test it. I may file a bug if it works in other browsers.here is a link to test message: Play Message

@astro46 works for me, plays in Vivaldi by clicking the play icon.
It's using flash player, maybe you don't have it activated on that site. -
@astro46 Opera 12.18 plays it nicely, showing the media control bar too.
- Vivaldi just offers the link to download or open the MP3 file.
- Opera 51.0 Blocks it with no option to play it
- IE11 plays it with the control bar
- Firefox 58 blocks it then plays it if allowed.

@pesala weird, maybe acts differently on win7, but play button works for me.

@gwen-dragon Is flash plugin updated? I have 28.0.0.161

enabling flash for this site has fixed it. thanks for figuring this out.
however, this leads to another question: default site setting for flash is 'ask'. If the site needed flash, why didn't flash 'ask'? if it had asked, the solution would have been obvious.

@astro46 that's the actual bug, the popup asking to enable flash doesn't appear at all.
