Middle click on tab bar to open new tab
-
Just like Opera did and Firefox does
-
@zakius a middle click on the tab bar opens a new tab for me since many versions ago.
-
Middle-click on tab bar does nothing for me.
In Opera, I have enabled
PageBar Open URL On MiddleClick
So middle-click on Opera 12.18 tab bar opens a URL or a default search with the clipboard contents. If it is empty nothing happens.
-
@david-cortes it does exactly nothing for me and I can't find anything releated to this in options
@pesala by default it just opens a new tab in Good Old Opera
-
@zakius Where are you clicking on the tab bar, how much free space is there after your tabs, and what OS are you on?
-
@ayespy anywhere on the right side of new tab button, behaves the same for 1 or any other number of tabs, IIRC it was like that on win7 SP1, 8, 8.1, 8.1u and all versions of 10 I had
-
@zakius So you must have your tabs on top. It works everywhere but there (tabs on bottom or either side). If I recall, there's an unfixed bug on this.
-
What happens if you go to Settings -> Appearance -> Window appearance -> check 'Use Native Window', and then try it again?
-
@ayespy yep, I have them on top
@david-cortes well, it indeed works thenmb for not realizing it was just bugged
-
@zakius well I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but if it's intended to work like that, I myself would very much prefer it to open new tabs with middle and double clicks in the tab bar regardless of whether I'm using 'Native Window' or Vivaldi's own window design.
-
@david-cortes said in Middle click on tab bar to open new tab:

Middle-click on tab bar has always opened a new tab in Vivaldi - or at least since one of the earliest versions! Why this request?
-
@mossman No it doesn't unless one uses Windows native appearance. I would also like it to work in all cases, but for me "Open URL on middle-click" with the clipboard contents is more useful than simply opening a new speed dial page (there's a button for that).
-
@mossman because if you do what anyone would do: install Vivaldi, middle click on tab bar and notice that nothing happens you'd simply assume it isn't implemented yet, right? and exactly that happens
-
I have Vivaldi and Vivaldi snapshot installed at different times on five different machines with three flavours of windows and none of them have native windows theme. They all open a new tab when I middle click on the tab bar as stated in the title of this thread.
What am I missing?
-
@mossman aha!
I have the tab bar at the bottom. That makes it work (and has always made it work). Weird!
-
@mossman works with tabs on left or right as well - only fails with tabs on top.
So this isn't a feature request... You need to file a bug report instead!
-
@mossman Sorry to keep replying to myself but I can vaguely remember this being "requested" way back in the first few weeks of public technical preview release. This discussion where it turned out it worked for me because I use bottom tab bar seems familiar. In fact, I think Pesala was involved in that one as well!
Perhaps an insider can go look for it in the bug tracker and give it higher priority...
-
@mossman well, if I see feature missing I assume it's missing, not implemented but not working at all (and never thought I should try moving tab bar around before requesting it)
-
@zakius No need to be defensive - I'm not blaming you, I'm helping you.
-
Yes please!!
