Video won't play at MSNBC

Thanks for your reply. I do have Linux Mint on another 64 Bit computer dual boot with Win 7 but have not been able to devote time to finalise functions to enable it to take over as the main daily operator. The Vivaldi under discussion was installed at the time of its release, but as Opera got their act together it fell into disuse only due to the very long time it takes to load on start in XP. However more tests reveal some strange things.
I find it works correctly in the Administrator account ( & no Java requests) but not in the User. In Admin I gave the Vivaldi folder full rights in user but this did still not work, neither did giving the User account Admin rights. So it seems its either a system fault or something gone wrong in the user account of Vivaldi. I think this must have been alright originally as I did post in the Vivaldi forum about a year ago and that would be from User account, but not now so. Maybe the answer is to try reinstalling Vivaldi over the top or recover it from an earlier Acronis backup.
Given up now for today to have a break and attend to other matters.Sys Details: X86, XP Pro SP3, Ram DDR2, 2GB 2slots spare but I recall this may be the limit for this mobo, AMD Athlon(tm) 64x2 Dual core 4400 2.3GHz. The Java plugin that came with Vivaldi is V8 4.9.385.33 and the dreaded Flash 21.0.0.242 both showing enabled in Ad-ons.
As this is a plugin I assume I do not need to give the Java folder additional rights that is on the computer for Firefox and Opera both operating correctlyThanks

We have to assume that in this description you mean JavaScript which is a different thing entirely. However, that now raises the question of what exactly is the error you are seeing?
the same message re Java pops up on the forum when I tried to see the replies in this forum and I could not access them or post this entry.
I find it works correctly in the Administrator account ( & no Java requests) but not in the User.
This may suggest different AV/Firewall/other security sofware settings.

Thanks ThGbe. You are quite right I did mean Java Script, my error.
This is what comes up on a few web pages when not loading the video but not on all. It says Error: either try in YouTube or have Java script enabled. Most just show an empty black. box though with no picture or play arrow present especially on YouTube. I dont think it is the firewall or AV or other security settings as there is no problem on Opera or Firefox. Security settings mentioned above are provided by Kaspersky Internet Security and are common to Admin and User. I checked in both and settings are identical as I would expect. The only other Spyware running at start in both Admin and User is Spyware Blaster. This cannot be stopped from loading as it does not show in Kaspersky or Win Patrol which restricts my startup entries. It has always been present. I should have said earlier I had stopped Ad Muncher from loading as this definately stopped videos but the problem still persists in User. Knowing this I deselected Dont Track Me and allowed third party Cookies in Vivaldi but made no difference. So I am no further forward. Any otherAnti malware software is only run on demand on either account so is not active in normal operation

@gwen-dragon Still not working for me. Did you do something to fix it?
-
@gwen-dragon Enf?
-
@michael100 Nope. Didn't work. Why do I seem to be the only one with specific Vivaldi problems? MSNBC doesn't work/ Private window doesn't open maximized/ .....
-
@michael100 Have you considered refreshing your profile?
-
Hi, video does not work for me on Linux, tested in private window too.
All other pages work fine, Youtube, Netflix, Maxdome, Vimeo, German Television Pages and so forth.
Checked with Flash enabled too.Cheers, mib

@gwen-dragon OK - I refreshed my profile (also did that a couple of weeks ago) and both problems were solved using the new Default Profile. Went back to old one and disabled all extensions. Restarted Vivaldi. Same problems. Maybe I will just go with the new profile and set everything back to the way I like it and see if it changes anything.
Windows 10 Home. 10.0.16299 Build 16299

@gwen-dragon Sorry gwen-dragon, is that Greek you are speaking to me? I am going to try a new default profile and reinstall everything to see how it works. It's not a problem for me. It's not as if I have anything better to do with my life
I'll let you know here how it works out.
-
@gwen-dragon OK - I started a new profile, got everything set up the way it was. MSNBC videos now play. Private window still not opening in expanded view from Vivaldi icon (upper left) or mouse gesture. It does open expanded from the task bar icon but it then opens with all my startup pages (Startup with Specific Pages). I want an expanded window to open at my start page with no other tabs when selected by upper left V icon or by mouse gesture. It isn't the end of the world and I can live with it but it would be nice to be able to do that.

My favorite news is Fox News, and 'live' video wont play there, either. BUT, at least that URL tells me which browsers WILL work, so I have Chrome installed, and home paged to foxnews.com specifically for that reason. Maybe MSNBC tells you which to use, instead of Vivaldi ??
OTHERWISE...Vivaldi is really great for ME...
-
With linux (arch/manjaro) I have no problems. What I notice the player don't show fullsize.
-
For the benefit of those Tiny Few that would possibly care, both Fox News and Fox Business News now include Vivaldi in the 'it works' browser list for streaming of programming. I guess it does pay to gripe from time to time.
NOW....Vivaldi is MY perfect browser........ in all Four Seasons. [forgive the pun]

Hi
I know my query that was posted 21 days ago is perhaps unusual and I have not been able to get to the bottom of it.
Has anybody any comments to add please? THANKs -
Cookies are allowed for the session then deleted.automatically
No extensions.
Pop up ads may be blocked if there is a blocker in the Vivaldi browser. Not certain off hand as its on another computer thats currently disconnected. If its critical I will have to swap connections and check. -
To solve this Chromium problem:
Go to
"vivaldi://flags/#disable-accelerated-video-decode"
and set it to "Disabled".
Restart Vivaldi.Chances are very high that the videos will play.
