Dead Bird Tabs annoy me hard
-
@stpvid1
Yes I have
It's just a huge gamebreaker for me cos I'm a moderator on various channels and when the dead bird appear and I have to reload the channel, the whole chat is empty of cause.And I would not want to use another browser just for twitch...
I thought maybe dead birds happen, when an commercial block is injected into the videostream. That's how twitch does it these days...
Would be great if one could show me a way to maybe log those dead birds properly so a Dev could have a look over the log. -
@freeman79 oh no, I just got a deadbird !
I was looking at photos on Facebook the past hour and when I clicked to read comments the bird showed up ! that hasn't happened before .
the Birds are back !!!
-
until the new version i was doing fine! now i just get a lot of dead birds and if i load like 3 normal links into tabs at once i get just a big freeze and have to wait 1 minute to load the tabs!!! wtf has happened?!
is there something wrong in my settings?

after that minute of goddamn freeze you have a 50% of get the tabs to dead bird or load em. omg... EVEN IF OPENING ONLY 1 TAB!
-
now i have worked through the graphic video card settings and it is SLIGHTLY better but everything is pretty still messed up.
-
Your pc is getting outdated, by the specs seems a laptop with has at least 10 years. How about at least to replace the gfx card with a more performant and cheap modern chip? A nvdia GT 710 it's about 50euro and you could have HW acceleration.
-
@ian-coog regarding that. do you know if you can update the components of the laptop?! like the ram you can change i think because i saw they are chipcards that can be detatched and also hard disks, but what about videocard and cpu?
-
@urfausto I really don't know, I prefer to stay away from laptops, for me they are just expensive toys like smartphones and tablets
I prefer tower PCs, they can be upgraded piece by piece with no problems at half the price. -
Hi, I have core2duo laptop too but with crappy GS965 Intel GPU and have more acceleration than the 9600m.

Can you check if a Windows update may break your GPU driver?
I prefer original Nvidia driver over the driver coming from Windows update.Cheers, mib
-
@ian-coog ok but i love my notebook it's very good new ones are not like this anymore. and it's been my life companion so i won't abandon it.
for sure when i will have money i will upgrade everything i can!!
-
@mib2berlin i also have nvidia driver, but i never ever saw a dead bird since i installed vivaldi! now they came in flocks!!! loooool
i advise you to disable hw acceleration from the chrome settings page.
-
Dead birds not only happen on older PCs/Laptops. Mine is a new one with a Ryzen 1700x + a GTX1060 and those Dead birds doesn't happen in any other browser, neither I get Tab crashes or similar.
...I have even tried to set all flags and command line settings just like in my chrome browser, but Dead birds keep on happening all the time.
i advise you to disable hw acceleration from the chrome settings page.
As for me, I already tried that and all other tricks from the book, but nothing helps against those dead birds, they come in swarms

@Freeman79Those strange birds showed up about 1 minute after going to the Weather Channels website, weather.com , trying to look at a map all this background downloading was going on with them and then the "Bird". I tried the site a couple of times and the same thing happened . I know I can use other sites for weather, but that one won't work. and I have "Flash" disabled.
-
@stpvid1
I feel you, man... they still drive me nuts and still no word on how to get rid of them. FeelsBadMan -
Those Dead Birds only happen on livestreams for me.
Just fell over another Dead bird on that page: http://www.phoenix.de/livestream/
It's a german News channel.vivaldi://gpu tells me these errors when a Dead Bird happens:
[1180:5660:1206/185645.964:ERROR:source_reader_worker.cc(102)] : PROPMEDIA(GPU) : platform_media::SourceReaderWorker::GetNativeMediaType : Received an error

yep the dead bird keeps showing up on weather.com and walmart.com after about a minute on those sites, but the banking web sites are fine...

@gwen-dragon said in Dead Bird Tabs annoy me hard:
Can you please try with Override GPU blacklist?
- open vivaldi://flags/#ignore-gpu-blacklist
- Activate
- Restart Vivaldi
That's what you told me a while back already. For an older vivaldi version.
I still have this flag activated.Didn't help.
@gwen-dragon said in Dead Bird Tabs on twitch tv:Strange!
Can you try:
Open vivaldi://flags/#ignore-gpu-blacklist
Activate
Restart Vivaldi -
OK I tried that ignore gpu blacklist setting, Disabled, still after about a minute on weather.com looking at the latest radar map it went to a dead bird again...and what is the built-in software rendering list? can I see what's on the list?
-
a day of trying the "Override software rendering list" enabled and disabled, still got the same result of the dead bird appearing after about a minute on weather.com, walmart.com, facebook.com(looking at a series of photos) , so don't know whats causing a conflict with Vivaldi. I also temporarily disabled Windows Firewall if that might cause any conflicts. I have noticed with the Firewall off, pages run faster.

@gwen-dragon said in Dead Bird Tabs annoy me hard:
We have some Dead-Bird-pages on Linux too. Related bug VB-35508. It is a Chromium issue, and can unfortunonly be fixed by new Updates from Chromium devs.
That would be great if those get fixed.
Strange thing, nothing similar happens to me when I use the chrome browser based on chromium 63.0.3239.84
