Vivaldi won't run
-
I have the latest version for Windows-64 bit. It stopped working. It takes forever to load. I'll get an icon in the task bar, but that's all. It won't even allow me to close the program. I must go to the Windows Task Manager and kill the process. I reinstalled it from the Vivaldi web site. Didn't help. What do I do and how do I preserve bookmarks, etc., while doing it?

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I can't follow that procedure. I wasn't completely clear in my description. A Vivaldi opens on my task bar, but no Vivaldi program window opens. Thus, I don't have any menus or help or anything.

@baclark
It could be that the new window is being created "off screen"; you could try this to "find" it

@baclark If you're in Windows and you did nothing special during your install. your "default" folder is at c:\users\ (your username)\appdata\local\vivaldi\user data\default. Rename it. Then try to start Vivaldi again.

@tbgbe Thanks for the reply. Neither trick worked, so evidently there was no Vivaldi window.

@ayespy Thanks. This worked! Yay! now how to I restore the former contents of the Default folder without screwing things up again, i.e., what is safe to move back?
-
@baclark You're safe moving back in your bookmarks, log in data, history, cookies, favicons. As to extensions, I would re-install these one at a time, with testing in between, to find out if one of them caused the problem. Do not under any circumstances move back a preferences file, or any file with session or tab in the name.
