Delay of 5 seconds when loading new website

Hello.
I have noticed a very annoying effect with Vivaldi. When loading a new website, there is a delay of five seconds from the moment i click "enter" to the website actually begins loading. This problem only happens when the domain is entered - clicking links or loading pages from the same domain does not have the same problem.

Example:
Type www.google.com in a new tab and hit enter. A five second delay occur before the website begins loading. Click the "about" link at the bottom of the page, and the about-page loads immediately. Close the tab and open a new tab, write "https://www.google.com/about/" and hit enter. It again takes five seconds before loading the page. It is therefore not a matter of caching. Any domain that is entered for the first time in a tab has a long delay before loading.

It also does not help to have the same domain open in a different tab: I.e., having www.google.com loaded in one tab, and then opening a new tab and again navigating to www.google.com results in the same five second delay.

Have anyone else experienced this too?

IT happens to sometime just clear browser's data and you are good to go.

That did not work. Cleared both my browsing history and cookies.

@Pinks I don't think clearing cookies does anything, but clearing history helps a lot with overall responsiveness.

Sometimes I notice a very slight delay if I don't clear my browser data. But definitely not 5 seconds. It's more like half a second or so, but it's perceptible. Sometimes, it's actually when I middle click a link to open it in a background tab, it'll show no favicon, then after a second, it'll start showing a favicon and then it'll load. Whereas in other browsers like Opera and Firefox, if you middle-click links, it usually starts loading right away.

It's no big deal, and doesn't affect my experience, but I see some optimization in the future for this would be nice.

The data I clear, btw, is cache, app cache, downloads, and history. I'm not sure clearing cookies does much, unless you want an individual cookie that tracks you gone. But performance-wise, those are some good things to clear.

@Pinks If the delay is consistent, it may also be an IPv4/IPv6 networking issue where both protocols are enabled but the IPv6 connectivity is problematic. A time-out/fallback occurs on the initial connection attempt to a site but once the optimal "connection path" is established, new connections get established immediately.

You can do a quick health check of your network connectivity with this site:
http://test-ipv6.com

and verify IPv6 connections/IPv4 fallback with this site:
http://he.test-ipv6.com

and do a more thorough test of your network connectivity with this site:
http://ipv6-test.com

I had the exact same problem then i disabled voodooshield and delay was gone

I have the same problem since a couple of days: 5-6 seconds delay after hitting the enter button when entering an url before the site starts loading. I tried the above mentioned points (deleting browser data, deactivating extensions). IPv6 functionality seems also fine according the the test-pages.
Some strange observations:

When going to the extensions page (menu "tools" --> "extensions") the same delay occurs. Opening other things like the bookmarks, history or settings page the delay does not occur?!?
Loading the homepage of my router the same delay occurs. So it seems the internet connection is not related to the problem, since this is a LAN connection.
The delay does only occur for the first time a site is loaded. When I click any links on the homepage the new page loads instantaneously.
The delay does not occur with google chrome.

As I see it, this is a vivaldi problem.
Does anyone have an idea how i can fix this? I really don´t want to switch my browser

I see that I am entirely unready for IPv6. The test on the last link you posted shows me that IPv4 resources are loaded with a consistent period of around 800ms. IPv6 resources are never loaded, on account of my network not being ready for it.

Interesting observations. I report the same problems, except point three. Clicking a link on my homepage, be it speed dial or bookmarks, still results in a 5 second delay.

I am using AVG antivirus. Disabling it has no effect on the loading time.

Disabling AVG is more or less ineffective. To test this you'll need to uninstall AVG (which by the way has a pretty high ranking in blocking vivaldi or slowing it down).
But please make sure that you'll backup your blacklist/whitelist/whatever settings if you made some before uninstall AVG.

If your antivirus scans SSL connections and/or checks links by cloud you may get an other delay with content loading.
I propose to disable the inspection of secure (SSL) connections.

Thank you for your suggestions. I put AVG in passive mode (menu->settings->troubleshooting->passive mode) and it solved the issue. This is not a permanent solution but it will enable to me better track down exactly which part of AVG is making problems. I will report back if I make any discoveries.

I am using avast as antivirus software. As i wrote before, turning off avast with the according menu option didn´t solve my problem. After reading the latest posts i tried de-installing avast... and vivaldi works fine again.

I guess antivirus software really is the crap IT-experts keep telling me...
