How to stop Windows from pushing (me over the) Edge
-
Is there a way I can stop my computer from changing or asking me to change my browser to edge?
-
@karatebody -- Yes, certainly. Here's just one way that's guaranteed to stop that annoyance!

I've always had MS Edge set as my default browser on both my PC and on my Tablet (since switching to W10), even though I rarely use it. One feature that I like about Edge is that while it's set as the default browser, I can open InPrivate window and have every URL (from other applications) opened in that private window, even if the "normal" session window is still opened. I wonder if Vivaldi would work like that if set as the default browser (I use Standalone installations only).

@Dietrich Yeah, I know that it's a poor browser, but at least it has a well-thought UI for touchscreen devices - I'd say that it's even one of the best browsers when it comes to touch support. I'm using Vivaldi on my tablet regularly, and at times it could be a real nightmare - it's that bad... ️ I have no other choice than to use Edge from time to time, unfortunately.

@Dietrich No, I haven't tried anything else than Vivaldi and Edge on my tablet, because it has a very limited space and I don't want to clutter it up with browsers that I don't even want to use. I can live with that until Vivaldi will offer more customization options and proper touch support...

I probably should have posted this in Jon's blog post, but he was having such a nice rant I didn't want to spoil it for him...
Anyway, for me it wasn't the browser but IrfanView which constantly got swapped to the Windows picture viewer - and it was driving me up the wall! So I found this little registry hack: http://techdows.com/2016/02/prevent-windows-10-resetting-file-associations.html
I'm not sure if it worked or not but I haven't noticed this problem for several months now, so it might be why...

Googling just now about "Best webbrowsers 2017", shows that Vivaldi is gaining in popularity, and with good reason!
Nice to see this.

@Gwen-Dragon Thanks for that. That was an interesting blog...basically my plight in a nutshell. I had already set Vivaldi as my default browser but for a while i was being pestered with "You should really be using Edge/See what your missing" notifications.
