Can't use backtick/grave key (`) as keyboard shortcut
-
A version or two back, I used to be able to use the backtick/grave accent key (same key as the tilde character) as a keyboard shortcut key.
Now it just doesn't even register as a shortcut. I press the key in the shortcut definition entry field and nothing shows up.
I like to use it as my "Close Tab" shortcut.
Thanks!

@chibern It works for me. I use a modified UK Extended Keyboard on which the ` is a dead key for typing àèìòù etc.

It's a regression from 1.5, I guess not still fixed. Apparently the same key on UK kbds has not the same scancode as on US kbds. Use VivaldiHooks as a workaround for now, as explained in these threads.

Ahhh, ok. I guess I should've searched around a bit more.Bummer it's not fixed (and doesn't seem like it ever will be)
Thanks!

Is there any chance this will ever be fixed?
I´m on version 2.1.1337.51 and not able to use the backtick key as shortcut on the English (US) nor on the Czech (QWERTY) keyboard. -

Never say "never," but I think the chances are low. Try the UK International keyboard.

In the latest snapshot I can set this shortcut, with the default UK keyboard layout (I.e. without dead keys) but you first have to turn on "Single key shortcuts"
-
@LonM Confirmed here - with UK keyboard the backtick works (with single key shortcuts enabled).
Coincidentally, like the OP I too have always used this as a shortcut for Close Tab - in other programs as well as Vivaldi.
A workaround could be Autohotkey or similar. That's how I make backtick act as a close tab/window/document shortcut in other programs. Not ideal but maybe ok depending on the requirements.

@rf10 I found it useful to assign it to Mute All Tabs, and Shift+` to Unmute all tabs.
