YouTube Blocking Video for Browser with Ad Blocker
-
@MoosMas Something similar occurred the other day. The video screen indicated it was an ad, but the screen was black. Refreshing the page brought up the video.

YuoTube is fully blocked in India from today.
For the last one week, a screen used to pop up asking me to turn off the ad blocker. After a timeout of a few seconds, an X button appeared at the right-side top corner, which allowed me to close the screen and continue.
But from today, the warning screen has become permanent, and it totally blocks YouTube.
I do not have any extension to block ads. I have added www.YouTube.com to the exceptions list in my Privacy and security settings (I have selected "no blocking" option for YT).
The screen allowed me to file a complaint to Google that there is false positive detection of ad blocker. I did that just now, but it may take a long time to get resolved.
I wonder if this problem is inherent in Vivaldi's basic code, because I am able to watch the same YT video in Chrome!
[EDIT] oops. I did find out later that the Enhancer for YouTube extension has a built-in ad blocker. I disabled it, and now YT videos are playing fine.
Now I have blocked trackers for the YouTube site, and still it allows me to watch the videos.Ah, thank you for this.. today I couldn't play any videos. Previously i'd be able to refresh the page and the video would play, now it's just permanent. I completely whitelisted youtube with no luck. However, I do have the Enhancer for YouTube extension and after reading your comment - that was the culprit.

Thanks @omega8719 for opening this thread!
I just have this youtube adblocker detection popping up today. I find it a total hassle and we should have the right to choose to consume content without adds. But that is maybe only my point of view?
I like the workaround of copying & pasting in private mode. That works fine! But I am curious if someone finds another way to make it easier to use without add's?
Thank you!

YouTube has been a bit more rigorous in their attempt to block adblockers, but luckily the EU is on our side. I only got the gist of it, but apparently the tools YouTube uses are against EU law, as YouTube didn't ask the users' permission. I love it when giant corporations get reprimanded by EU laws, and I hope YouTube will finally just let us watch some videos without playing a playlist of ads first.

I enabled ad-blocking again on YouTube, and so far it is working without issues. Have YouTube responded to threats from the EU legislators?

@Pesala Not to my knowledge. I checked some more articles, but couldn't find anything about a response. I'm curious to find out how the story unfolds, and I'm sure it will sometime soon.

Anyway, at least for those outside of the EU, reminding of some countermeasures to the YT nags
Installing in Vivaldi the iFrame adblocker
- Open in Vivaldi the Extensions Page with the Developer mode activated (Ctrl+Shift+E)
- Download this script in a Folder (don't delete)
- Drag the script on the Extensions page and select Install
- Done
You can use front-ends
Also Desktop Clients
All of these privacy focused and OpenSource to watch YT without ads or other crap.

Youtube has totally broken youtube for me in vivaldi. I've been using Brave for youtube since they began this crack down, without issues.
Heard a lot of "youtube's crack down only made ad blocks better". So decided to try Vivaldi again now a few months in.It's still totally broken. If ublock origin is on it's just a black screen I can't click. If I turn ublock origin off I get the "disable adblocker" like the picture in OP.
Cache is cleared and cookies for youtube deleted. Disabled "return dislikes" "sponsorblock" "decentraleyes" and such as well, but youtube just don't understand I don't use an adblocker (fyi, I won't use it without adblocker / with ads, but it's weird YT believes I use adblocker when it's turned off).So two weird things:
- uBlock Origin totally breaks youtube.
- "Disable adblocker"-notification when adblocker disabled.
Google/Alphabeth trying to move people away from Vivaldi?

@atchoprosit
Hi, try to disable the Vivaldi ad blocker for YT, if you use it and uBlock it cant work.
Use Brave for a while and it will break too, this happen on all browsers.
Search the forum or the internet for youtube ad blocker and you find several threads about this issue.Disable the Vivaldi ad blocker.
You can disable it with the shield icon in the address bar for a page.Cheers, mib

@atchoprosit The best workaround I found was to disable Vivaldiβs ad-blocker on YouTube, and create a Quick Command:
- History Back
- Delay, 100 ms
- History Forward
I assigned the command to a button and a mouse gesture.
Inline ads still play, but at least one can start watching the video at once.

Thanks! Didn't even know Vivaldi had built in ad blocker.
Put it on blocking trackers only, and now youtube work with ads with ublock disabled, and work without ads with ublock enabled (so far, when they started the crack down it worked on and off, until I switched to brave where it has worked for since, I'll go on testing).
Thank you so much!

@edwardp Yes, it started happening to me on Vivaldi last week. First, I got the message that ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube, then, today, the warning that video streaming would be blocked after 3 videos if the ad blocker was not removed for YouTube.

New: Youtube again tightens the blocking of adblockers:

Hi everybody,
so I received this message too, like many others here
Though, unlike OP, for me this warning is non-blocking, i.e. I still can close this warning and watch youtube as usual. However, I understand that the situation can change in the nearest future as YT keep going on its crusade against adblockers, and the fight is ongoing.
My question: does Vivaldi Dev Team have a future-proof strategy how to tackle this problem and any ongoing developments or ideas for improving its adblocker?

They are dedicated to that. In the meantime use uBOL:

@astero, yes, I use the Vivaldi Blockr, it mostly skipps the ads in the Videos, but sometimes appears also this advice that adblocker ar not allowed, blablah. In this case I used a little script (4 lines) which i have installed as extension which redirect the Video as embedded in a new tab when I reload the Video (or clicking in an Video link).
https://openuserjs.org/scripts/Kraust/Youtube_Embed_Redirect
or alternatively this one
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/505094-youtube-to-youtube-no-cookie-embed-player
Download the script in a folder (don't delete it)
Open the extensionspage in Vivaldi in developer mode
Drag the script on the page to install it.You can use also an Userscript Manager like Tampermonkey and use the script there, but than Google can delete the script using the extension from the store (I know, I used also first an Userscript Manager, but all installed scripts disappear from one day to another)
I don`t not longer trust privacy or security extensions from the Chrome Store.

OK, I wasn't right. It appears they are gonna block me after the next 3 videos
Thanks guys for all your advices, I will try them.

Vivaldi Blockr
So Vivaldi Blockr is a custom extension or what? I tried to search by that word, but it didn't bring any results.
If this is a Chrome extension and you are saying you don't trust Chrome extension anymore, I don't get it what you are talking about here.
Having read the help page about extensions, I still don't see how one can install non-Chrome extension in Vivaldi, there is no such way described on that page.@Catweazle said in YouTube Blocking Video for Browser with Ad Blocker:

Drag the script on the page to install it.drag'n'droping the script is an undocumented way of installation?
