Solved Slow Forum Reloading
-
@Pesala
I have the same, sometimes it load in 2 seconds but often it need 4-6 seconds to open a blank text page.
I can load youtube.com with all preview images in 2 seconds and other forums in < 1 second.
It does not bother me to wait 2-3 seconds for a page but if you open it hundred times a day it is boring. -
@Pesala
May I ask if you use the Forum Mod extension?
Change to a light theme or disabling the extensions change the loading time dramatically for me on Snapshot
and an internal build, I don´t use it on Stable.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin I only use WordWeb, LanguageTool, and VideoMirror extensions. My stable installation is a default setup with no extensions.

@Pesala
Hi, I changed my ISP Yesterday and still the same slow loading of Recent.
In rare cases I get 2 seconds, which is also slow for an empty page, but usually 4-7 seconds on a 50 M/bit line.
I'm surprised that this doesn't affect other forum users as well.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin It does affect others. Forum takes forever to load. I don't know why, exactly.
-
@mib2berlin Can you try using some VPN? For me, it rarely takes more than one second to load any page (and my ISP is not the best, to put it mildly).
-
@pafflick
Hi, I tried with CyberGost VPN but I got the same loading times connecting to New York/Germany as without VPN: -
@mib2berlin Hmm, maybe Cloudflare is misbehaving, but I can't reproduce it here.
It usually takes less than 1 second to load the DOM content and less than 2 seconds (total) to load all resources (on the Recent / Unread pages).
-
@mib2berlin @pafflick My ISP has a peering agreement (?) with Cloudflare. For me, the Forum loads very fast overall and selecting Recent, the results load in immediately.
It sounds like Cloudflare could be having some issues over there.

I didn't have it before. After the update it's much more noticeable. Especially on the Recent page. Leading me to think it's some kind of caching proxy issue on Vivaldi's side. Which would explain why it doesn't happen every time.
My network is 1Gb and usually the pages load in less than 1 sec. But when it hangs, it hangs for 5-6 secs before loading.
Also, if you have 99+ in Unread - you're doing it wrong
Set all categories to Not Watching by default. Or Ignored if you don't care at all (like the language-specific ones you can't read anyway). Then only topics you watch will be in Unread. -
This is a significant issue for me, given how many times I follow links to recent and unread posts. Times of about 10 seconds are not unusual. Sixty times ten seconds is ten minutes, so I am losing easily 15 minutes a day just waiting for post lists to load.

As I mentioned I change my ISP from Vodafone to Telekom Yesterday and it´s exactly the same.
Using my mobile as hotspot seems faster at start but at some point it behave the same.
Cleaning Vivaldi, system cache or a clean profile acts the same.Cheers, mib
So it doesn't sound like it's the ISP.
It could possibly be at the backhaul, once Vodafone and Telekom pass off the traffic from their respective networks to the Internet.

I installed the Page Timer extension on the Stable 6.2 build and could not repeat the issue.
I tried on a 6.1 Snapshot, and again could not repeat it. Updating that build to the latest 6.3 Snapshot, and the extension still reported times around 1-2 seconds.
The issue does not seem to be related to the forum or the latest Vivaldi updates.
I looked to try another profile on this latest Snapshot, but cannot find the Address Bar profile icon that we could previously enable.Edit: I spoke too soon. I also see the issue on my standalone latest Snapshot in C:\TEMP, which has very few modifications made,
-
I also see the issue now on the 6.2 Stable build. Page time is for this topic. Again, almost no changes have been made to my default installation of the Stable build.

I found that this issue was caused by pagination of forum topics to 10 posts per page.
Unfortunately, this creates a new problem with long topics because my shortcuts of GestureUp or GestureDown will no longer go to the top or bottom of the page.
It also has a weird effect if I sort posts by most votes, or some other criterion. For example, go to Feature Requests for Desktop and sort by Most Votes. Press the End key to scroll down. Instead of scrolling down to the end of the list, it pages down a bit, but one has to keep pressing End to reach the end of the list.
Pressing Home goes up, but the sort order has reverted to the default Most Recent.

Hi, great find, change to 10 makes forum fast again.
Not for me. The opposite happens. Change to 10 makes it slow. Disabling the setting makes it fast.

@Pesala
Hi, great find, change to 10 makes forum fast again.
Mouse gesture for top/down is still working for me.Thank you, mib
EDIT: I will play with it over the day. -
Desktop Feature Requests
Press the End key to go to the end of the topic.
Result
Conclusion
Home/End work only as expected if sort order is Newest First.

@Pesala
Hm, I add a shortcut for page scroll and it work as expected but I am on an internal 6.3 build at moment.
It doesn't matter, the main thing is that it's fast.
Yesterday I got 14 seconds, really boring.
