Tab Stacks and Workspaces

I tried Workspaces and I loved the concept. They were easy to set up and worked fine... But only for a day. After a backup of my computer and reboot I started VB and voila my defined workspaces were blank! Frustrated, I tried tab stacks. After painstakingly setting them up they worked fine... But only for a day. They were all gone after another reboot. What gives with this?

@donpaolino What option have you enabled in Settings, General, Startup With? Try Last Session.

I believe I'm having the same issue. I double checked that I do have startup with "Last Session" selected.
I set up multiple workspaces, placing pinned tabs in each. And restarted the browser. Each time it consistantly pulls all tabs from each of the workspaces into the primary "root" workspace. I've tested this multiple times now.
Those proposing the set the last session: do tabs remain in your workspaces after restarting the browser?

@donpaolino @jpu4 Experimental session panel helped me a lot on this; now is very rare to have messed up workspaces.
- Enable Session Panel at
vivaldi://experiments/
and restart (don't tick Portal). - Add session icon to the panel. Not being official yet you manually have to add it
- Enabled autosave of latest 5 sessions (or what you like).
In the rare occurences it still happens, you can just scrap the main messed workspaces and restart from the session with the autosaved ones.
Of course, last session is still mandatory. Without it WS are always lost. - Enable Session Panel at

@Hadden89 thanks for the info... unfortunately it didn't resolve it.. .but i think i'm going to uninstall the browser completely and start from scratch. If it's working for ya'll I should be able to make it work.

@Hadden89 Ok. I did a full uninstall and reinstall and it finally worked correctly. HOWEVER Lol - Once I added my user account and sync'd up it stopped working. So there could be something in my sync settings that are causing the bug. I haven't read this in any of the other posts about this issue so this could be a lead.
I'll create a new account to test and report back.

@jpu4 Sometimes happens and the only solution for moderate/severe issue is to refresh the whole thing (which means a full re-install). As you mention a possible link to sync:

@Hadden89 Yep, new account is holding... so now my last thing to do is to see what i need to save and reset the sync settings to see if that does the trick otherwise i toss this account and keep the new one

@jpu4 Yes, reset remote data is helpful too. As long you have what you need locally.
On mobile I only sync password (short memory) and notes. -
@Hadden89 ya of course... i just use notes and custom search - and the export notes feature was nice and fast - so that was a good experience. Ok so i can safely confirm resetting my remote sync data so far has resolved my issue.

I am completely out of ideas, just hoping someone will be able to help me. -
@krzysztofdrozdowski So the first time I reset the remote data, I realized that my local setup still had my settings in play. So I was happy that it logged me out. That's when i deleted my local profile and recreated a new one because otherwise whatever corruption was happening would get sync'd back up.
Once I tested the new profile without sync, and found it successful, I connected my account back up to sync. Because the remote data was clean, the corruption had been irradicated.
I read your thread. If you've reset the remote data and you've resynced through a new profile you "shouldn't" have any leftover settings. It should all be fresh.
If the issue is still not resolved your only remaining option is to create a new account.

@donpaolino Thank you to all. What I did was logged out of my account and set up workspaces again. I also set startup with "Last Session" They are staying as I set them after several restarts! Good feature. Thanks again!!!

@jpu4 Aaaaaaand it's broken again ! lol I booted up after breakfast today and found a crap load of tabs merged into the root workspace again... Crazy bug i tell ya. I may have to just delete this account

@jpu4 Lost too after a reboot and restored from session autosave. Afaik is known and devs are checking for the issue.

@Hadden89 that's good to hear. I'm in the programming space myself, and i know new features are monitored closely. These guys are still my favorite browser
I'll watch for updates.
