Bookmarks Bar does not hold anything
-
I have noticed, suddenly, that I cannot put anything on the bookmarks bar. The bookmarks bar is a total blank and anything I try to copy there disappears. Also, on my other browsers I have a number of tabs on the bookmark bar and each tab contains a number of web sites. Before the items started disappearing, I could not do this in Vivaldi, only web sites could be opened from the bar.

Your "bookmark bar" is the horizontal one under the address bar, yes? (I ask, because the most recent person I counseled on this was calling the bookmark panel the bookmark "bar.") What folder in your bookmarks do you have assigned to be shown on this bar? You should be able to see what folder is assigned in menu/tools/settings/bookmarks. Have you looked in the bookmarks trash folder to see if your bookmarks have somehow wound up there?
You cannot have tabs on a bookmark bar. You can have links (favicons and/or labels) and folders. Inside the folders can be more links and/or folders.
In what way are you trying to "put things" on the bookmark bar? What do you mean, things started disappearing? One at a time? While the browser is open? Not there when you close the browser and reopen it?

The main problem is solved, I went to tools-settings-bookmarks and then could place folders on the bookmark bar. However, I can't set up the bar as it is set up in all other browsers. It contains what I call tabs and you may call folders which contain the various websites I might be interested in. By clicking the tab a menu of these websites opens and I can then chose which I want to open.
I can't figure out how to duplicate this arrangement in Vivaldi.

I don't know what I did but suddenly I was able to put all my tabs on the bookmark bar, as per other browsers!
The problem is solved! -
Glad it's cleared up for you.
To clarify what I "may call folders," the correct names of the items on the bookmark bar are "bookmarks" and "folders," and inside the folders are more bookmarks. These are the names people will understand when you speak of them. There is no such thing as a tab on a bookmark bar, so folks don't understand what you mean when you say that. Inside the folders are bookmarks, and these bookmarks take you to websites. So the names of these things are "folders" and "bookmarks." You may call them what you wish. I'm letting you know what browser developers, browser users, tech writers, tech companies and users of the internet have called them for the last twenty-five years, so that when you converse with people about them, you know what words they will understand.
In the meantime, YAY that you have it working!
