Solved Issues with changing the default search engine after update

I reenabled all my enabled extension and after that I can change/delete unusfull search engines. Restart is not necessary.

I just got the latest update to vivaldi and now I can no longer change my default search engine.
I cannot choose anything other than Yahoo in the drop down boxes, and if I try to set the "use as default" check box, it clears after you move away and back again.

Not happy at this. I moved to Vivaldi to use a better browser now it is getting as bad as Opera and Edge....

I turned off all extensions (IDM and Microsoft Rewards) and managed to change my default. I then reactivated my two extensions... Looks like an issue with updates and existing extensions.... Maybe the update code should disable extensions during the updating then restore them after the update to keep user settings valid.
My settings changed during the last update causing my search engine to be set to Yahoo, without the ability to change it back.

Thank you! Disabling and re-enabling my extensions seems to have fixed it.

After update to 5.3.2679.38 on Windows 10 now I have the same problem.
No matter what, stupid Yahoo stays as default.
Did you somehow manage to solve this without reinstalling?

Hello dear Vivaldi Team,

Recently, my Default Search Engine has been changed to Bing from DuckDuckGo. When I tried to change it back, I realized that it's not possible to do so. The setting keeps resetting itself to Bing. Could you please have a look into this issue?

Known issue
If you have recently upgraded to 5.3 and have a problem where you cannot change search engines (VB-89670), we are still planning a fix for this in a future update. To work around it in the mean time, just disable and immediately re-enable any extensions you have installed that can configure/setup search (.e.g. “DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials”, “Startpage — Private Search Engine”, “Kagi Search”, etc.). Now restart the browser. You should then be able to control the default search engine again in Settings.

Some user report they disable all extensions, change search engine, enable all again.

@mib2berlin Oh wow, thanks for immediate reply, it's a little infuriating, if you can't change search engine
I'm actually in the process of shutting down extensions, but let me ask you one thing before I do so.
I found the file Preferences in my Vivaldi user profile and it seems to be just a json file.
And there are multiple keys which might have something to do with search setting, for example:

Hi, no idea but it look more like an ID for the new feature of sync search engines.
You can try to start Vivaldi with the command line switch

--disable-extensions
as @tw9 mention.

It disable all extensions at startup, but I don´t know if it influence the search engine settings.

I am also suffering from this same issue. My default went from DuckDuckGo to Yahoo Search.
Changing back to DuckDuckGo as my default is only temporary and will revert back to Yahoo after closing and opening the browser. In the settings menu Yahoo 'Set as Default Search' was check and greyed out and I cannot uncheck it. Drop down menu is also hard stuck at Yahoo when trying to change it from there. I also unable to delete Yahoo, clicking on the Delete button does nothing.

@mib2berlin thanks, after disabling extensions, the search engine went back to google automatically. But after enabling, it's yahoo again and unable to change.
Now I know it's an extension doing, so I'm up to find out which.
