Vivaldi bugs
-
Tested Vivaldi 1.0.83.38 on Ubuntu 14.04.1 amd64 Bugs: - I can not select more bookmarks at once for e.g. update more bookmark previews or e.g. move more bookmarks between folders - Previews of websites sometimes don't load at all - The Horizontal menu option should show OS native menu instead of the browser's one - Currently Vivaldi doesn't work at all. After clicking on Vivaldi's icon the browser window launches, but it is just black and empty (not tabs, no UI, no web, ...) and reinstalling didn't help. SOLVED by reinstalling Vivaldi and deleting all folders and files called "vivaldi"... - If I open a link from a website I'm currently logged in into a new tab, I'm logged out - Clone tab function should have its shortcut - Background of Speed Dial could be customizable - Alt + click doesn't download the file - Select multiple tabs (e.g. to close them at once doesn't work) - Address bar autocomplete missing - Sometimes I'm not able to edit the address bar. I'm stuck with dragging its content out - Czech localization is horrible (looks like english with some localized phrases from Chromium). I could help with translation - Missing Ctrl + Shift + T (opens last closed tab) function - Missing extensions (looks like they are disabled by default for now - dead bird icon if I go to chrome extension store...) - Bookmarks (and maybe some other) urls (e.g. vivaldi://bookmarks) don't work - Three about pages (vivaldi://about, vivaldi://help and vivaldi://chrome) - Option to hide search bar missing - Please add newer version of Flash (v11 is too much buggy to be safe to use) - Crashes too often (not so stable) - Missing whole page translation option - Remember passwords could not be disabled (or I haven't found it yet) Maybe I forgot something. I'll update this list if I did

I also have the "black screen of death" problem (black and empty, no tabs, no UI, no web, no nothing!).
Today I downloaded the .deb file for AMD-64 and installed it on an Ubuntu derivative called LinuxLite. I ran Vivaldi once and thought it was quite fast and very promising. I closed it to see if it would launch again with the "-incognito" parameter like Chrome and Chromium, but all I got was a black screen. Then I got the same (i.e., nothing other than an icon in my panel of open windows) after logging out and back in, and after rebooting.
By launching from the command line, I can see the error message "cannot load default config file." That doesn't help me much, because I can find ~/.config/vivaldi but beyond that I have no idea what the file would be called or what it ought to contain.
To me, reinstalling Vivaldi 6 times is a viable option for a program you already know and love, but not a viable route to get people to try a new program.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong? Thanks.

I cannot open incognito mode

Just try what I did, purge Vivaldi, delete all folders and files which are called "vivaldi" or similar (also hidden ones). Then reinstall it again. Worked for me

This. Same here on Xubuntu 14.10.

Would love to have Google Chrome style tab navigation – instead of relative tab switching (to the left or the right of your current tab) just asign a number to each so Cmd+Number brings you to a given tab (ex. Cmd+1 = first tab, Cmd+2 = second tab, etc.)
-
About the tab stacks:
The close button closes the whole stack, instead of just the top tab. It's really easy to accidentally close a bunch of tabs the way it is now. It would be safer if there was a "close tab stack" button in the drop down preview.
Also, the "close tab stack" button in the right-click menu doesn't seem to work (using Windows 8.1 version).
I don't see any way to take any tabs out of the stack, or to expand the stack so that it shows all of the tabs side-by-side in the tab bar (if I remember correctly, Opera 12 had an expand button instead of a close tab button which did exactly this, and that would solve my first complaint as well).

Shortcut NEXT/PREV TAB not working after 3 times click please fix

Please, don´t forget to include Feeds Reader and Bookmarks likes Opera 11.
*** Modern bookmarks are a shi*, as well as the feeds reader using extensions

I also have the "black screen of death" problem (black and empty, no tabs, no UI, no web, no nothing!).
This happens to me after deleting some bookmarks (e.g. folder 'news').
I have to delete all vivaldi-files and totally reinstall it. This is really annoying because this browser is so amazing :woohoo:

features I love from the old opera
MDI window mode
Right-click element > Block
Set recurring(or once) page refresh in X seconds/minutes
RSS Subscribe
Download window > URL Box to immediately download
Right-click, open in current tab -
and also the Down Arrow in URL box to list down recent sites
-
and I can remember a feature , I could add a button in a tab, to show/hide images for current tab only
so for tab 1, show images, tab 2 don't show images
INCREDIBLY loved old opera for that!! so we could just focus on content only, for certain sites

On Windows 8.1, NVidia GTX 760M i see the text very blurry with no subpixel hinting (grayscale hinting instead). It would be nice if this could be configured somehow.

At last we have a print rendering engine with preview that works. This is excellent.
Could we also have the forwards & backwards browsing history available from the keyboard please: i.e. ALT-Z and ALT-X. That was the beauty of the last "good" Opera - having the ability to use simple keyboard shortcuts for a very fast browsing experience.
Would also like the option to disable the close button on tabs. These take up space when power users have large numbers of open tabs. It's easy enough to use mouse gestures or the keyboard to close tabs in this situation.
Mouse gesture: open new tab (drag-down) is missing or not (yet) implemented.

Oh, I like this initiative! This browser is looking very promising. If I could code, I would probably do the same project, so I'm really glad to see this.
As opera 12 user, there are a few features that I currently miss in Vivaldi. They are:
- Pin a tab so they become small and always visible.
- Ability to show the website preview in their tabs (you can drag the tabrow down in Opera to see it. I'm a visual person, so thats how I navigate quickly to the tabs I visit often.
- I am not yet sure if I need this one: ability to expand/contract tabgroups into one or all tabs.
And a bug I found:
Pressing right mouse button + left mouse button to go to the previous tab still does a context menu popup. -
Basically, give me opera 12.14 (or maybe even opera 11) but modernised. I love that tab stacking has returned and that the + and - signs can still be used to control zoom as well as using the numbers for this. Did they forget to add the * to be used to bring the page back to its default size?
As for things specifically that I want:
-opera's password management instead of chrome's. I do not like how the fields auto populate when you visit a page that requires your login. I would prefer that the fields remain blank until you hit Ctrl+Enter. Or maybe hit the wand button, but that's not really necessary, although nice to have.
-same amount of freedom for customising the speed dial as opera 12. I would like to adjust the size and how many dials I may have in each row or column. I do like that I may use bookmark folders as my speed dial. Very clever feature, makes me glad that I duplicated my original speed dial in opera as a bookmark folder.
-customisation: if the ability to create your own buttons and such does not return, please add a "minimise all" button to minimise all tabs.
-opera turbo: i'd LOVE to see this in vivaldi. as mentioned before, it's not something i use often, but i am extremely glad it's there for when i must use it.
-better portability: when i choose stand alone installation in opera 12 (or any older version for that matter) I can take the resulting opera folder anywhere and it will work. This does not happen with vivaldi. If I move the Vivaldi folder and try to run it, I get an error message saying that it's searching for something and lists the path that it was originally installed in. Basically, please make portability work like in opera 12.
-please bring back opera 12's network and proxy settings, not what is currently found in vivaldi and chrome.
This is all that I can think of for now.
-
As for opera's password manager, I feel like you, but recently I switched to lastpass, so I can transfer my passwords elsewhere, and manage it all better (random passwords etc). When extensions are made, this is going to solve your problem.
-
It took a couple of minutes for Vivaldi to load rateyourmusic.com page (which is a rather lightweight site)
-
LPChip, you can actually drag down the tabbar to get previews.
