[Bugs?] Inconsistencies in spell checking and language settings.
-
Hello *, I usually wrote in FOUR different languages and the current spell checker Chromium/Vivaldi implementation is driving me crazy. I have to click 5 times to change the spell checker dictionary in a text box and 5 times to revert it to the previous one. I know it's by design ( ) however I hope this behavior will be somehow modified in the future, because it will likely prevent me from using Vivaldi as my primary browser. While I was testing that feature, I've discovered some inconsistencies that may be bugs (or not.) 1) I cannot disable the spell checker dictionary of the browser GUI language. Let's say I've installed 4 dictionaries (A - language of the GUI too, B, C and D). I can select and disable B, C and D, but even if A is marked as "not usable" when another dictionary is selected, it is used to spell check the text at the same time of the other selected dictionaries. Of course, this behavior is just wrong without a heuristic system that understand in what language I'm writing. i.e. Here I'm writing in English and there's no reason to use other dictionaries, but Vivaldi considers as correct words written in Italian too and it also suggests them for corrections of English words... 2) I've set Vivaldi to open Preferences in a tab rather than in a floating window. When I right click in a text area and choose the language settings from the context menu,a the floating window opens anyway, but a new tab opens too, with this URL: vivaldi://settings/languages and the word "Vivaldi" written in the content area. When I close the unwanted floating window, the tab is not closed and I have manually to close it. And this happens every time I use the language settings from the context menu. If I change dictionary 10 times, I have to close 10 unwanted and useless tabs. This behavior if unmanageable, at least for me. It completely destroys my work habits.

@Gwen-Dragon:
I wanted to use DE and EN_GB for spellcheck, removes EN_US, added EN_GB and selected them both in opening chrome://settings/languages.
now i could spell check both languages at once.But thats not what you want, i think. You want to select it separately by conetx menu?
That is planned by our Vivaldi developers and reported as new Feature from many users.
But i dont know a timeline for this.Yes, I want a direct choice of the dictionary directly in the context menu.
Just simple as that,
Sincerely, I don't know why Chromium dev have changed that behavior that is the most correct one.
Even if I mix different languages in a text, It's simply wrong to spell check them by using 2 dictionaries at the same time and suggesting corrections from both.
