Limited sharing of bookmarks
-
Hi to All,
Since a few month I came from Opera to Vivaldi. Very happy with it. Last week, for the first time ever, I made a cloud account. Normally I am extremely withholding when it comes to storing stuff in the cloud. In my opinion it is not a question if, but only when all your stuff will be out on the street for anyone to grab. I have little to hide, but I am not an exhibitionist either.
However,
I want to do a research project with my wife and it would be good if we could share bookmarks between us. Neither of us wants to share all our own bookmarks with the other, only those belonging to the research project.
So I thought make a Vivaldi account for the project and simply share only the project bookmarks. But I found out that I can only have all bookmarks in the cloud, or none.
The other option would be to make more than one user profile within Vivaldi. But this seems very impractical; it is not so that I become someone else when I research. Like I do with many other things I look up and store in different folders in bookmarks. To me this would become the next folder. And the only folder I want to share only with my wife.I hope this is clear?
How do I organize this?Regards Cube

Hello @maasdijk, and welcome to our forums!
The Sync function was built with the purpose of syncing data between multiple devices belonging to the same user - not for sharing it between different users. Therefore, as you have noticed, there's no way of syncing only the selected bookmarks.
I believe there are extensions that could perhaps help with what you're trying to achieve - like this one, for example (although I didn't test it, so it's rather a guidance than a recommendation).

Hi Forum master,
Yeah, that was what I found out. I'll make something here, locally. Thanks for the input.
BTW, I am running Vivaldi as I think it is more protective than other options. So providing a solution containing "google" in the webaddress makes me do a 180 and run away. Yet again, it may be an acceptable option to others.Regards,

That's just a link to the Chrome Web Store, which offers various plugins/extensions that extend the browser's functionality (and most of which work in Vivaldi - as well as other Chromium-based browsers).
If - for whatever reason - you refuse to visit any website hosted by Google, then you could try to look for other download options, which are often provided on the extension's developer's website. I found this one for example (you can download the ZIP and install it using the Developer Mode in Vivaldi Extensions), but again - I haven't used it, haven't tested it - can't recommend it.

@pafflick thanks again,
some people make their lives difficult, don't bother trying to understand.
Mainly the question was "did I overlook something? Or is it simply not possible?" The answer was "You're correct, that is not an option." Well, let it be.
On the other hand, would it be a nice feature if everyone could have a bookmarks-directory shared with others using a cloud share? More like a chatroom. You make a shared list by a name. I share the code with someone I want to give access. From that point the two of us can add bookmarks. Would be fun, I think.I'll see where I end up, again thanks for your efforts! Cube.
