Vivaldi take a look at the new UC Browser and utilize its good points
-
I've just tried this new UC Browser for Windows and I was pleasantly surprised to find it seemed like a combination of the Cheetah browser and 360 browser. If you look at the interface it's very clean looking and similar to Edge but of course there's theming and I found a dark theme which looked very nice and has some nice transparency. I noticed this browser can pop out videos like Maxthon and I think that would be a good move for Vivaldi browser to implement. I think Vivaldi would do well to keep an eye on this browser and other Chinese browsers like Maxthon. I thought the speed-dial of UC Browser is nice except you cannot have folders unlike Opera and Vivaldi but being able to place a dial anywhere on the screen was excellent. I also was impressed to see that the speed-dial could be accessed by the home button similar to Opera's dedicated speed-dial button. I've been complaining for such a long time about Vivaldi not having a button access to the speed-dial. You'll noticed UC gives you the choice of two speed-dial layouts with the one being something entirely new and the other just like the old 360 Browser. I'm not sure if having two engines (Edge and Chromium) is worthwhile but many browser makers now seem to think it is? I would certainly consider using UC Browser along with Yandex, Opera and Vivaldi. The version of UC Browser I tried was 5.5.8807 for Windows and its installer is something else and looks very eye catching indeed, maybe something Vivaldi might like to do to pull in more punters with excitement and anticipation for the final stage of use and of course a different look to the usual crap looks of most browsers and software.

Vivaldi does have a dedicated speed dial button though, "new tab".

Vivaldi does have a dedicated speed dial button though, "new tab".
I have my "Home" button programmed to bring up Speed Dial. The difference is that it doesn't have to open a new tab, like the "+" button does. It's not conventional, and not built into the UI options (which will be nice, when that comes), but it's pretty straightforward and easy to do, all things considered.

Nobody wants to have to open a complete new tab just to see the speed-dial and this is why Opera and UC browser have buttons to keep the speed-dial accessible within the same tab. The '+' button is a new tab button not a speed-dial button.

Please share how you manage to get Vivaldi's speed-dial working in the home button as I tried a few times and failed.

The UC Browser falls down when it comes to the tab menu, when you have numerous tabs then all the tabs almost disappear and you'll have to rely more on the tab display button which is very much like the Linux workspace viewing or the new Windows 10 copy. So to me UC Browser is let down by just its tab menu and the lack of folders on its speed-dial. Now I'm very picky about my browsers and I will find fault in a browser within seconds or minutes but I must admit I quite like this new UC Browser and I'm glad I tried it. So to me if someone can master the good sides of all the browsers and combine them then they'll have an almost perfect browser. Now if you ask me then I believe Vivaldi's theming looks old school and unappealing and it doesn't blend in well. When I look at that lovely dark theming I tried on UC then in comparison Vivaldi is really lacking. That installer and uninstaller for UC looks truly fantastic and very modern. Some might ask what's the big deal about an installer as it's only on the screen for a few seconds? Well the installer is the very first impression and when you have fast, crisp and modern animation graphics like on UC then the software certainly draws in your attention. I've noticed with some Chinese browser developers they're very much into great presentation, nice animations and additions to their browsers. Vivaldi shows a bit of promise for Western browsers but in my opinion they still lag behind the Chinese. So Vivaldi before rushing into a final browser, look over the UC Browser and the Chinese style of development then brush up the Vivaldi browser. This way Vivaldi may truly wow the West with a truly unique browser not just a plain Jane as we have now. Even the fonts used in Vivaldi aren't very nice to look at. If a bit more polish can be added then Vivaldi can do well. I'm currently still using my Opera which might be a little bare but it has always been neat and easy on the eye along with a decent font. I might give UC browser another go in a moment but I do use numerous tabs and thus I'm so dubious considering UC Browser's lame tab viewings. I long for the time when I can pick up a browser and not find any negatives. Opera browser is probably the closest to a perfect browser except it lacks features of Maxthon and Vivaldi but other than features Opera is well thought out, neat and works perfectly. Yandex browser is nice but Yandex still insists on a small amount of dials and no folders in its speed-dial. Yandex also suffers from a bit of a clumsy UI when you actually need to access options.
