I always wondered why Jon and company chose Blink. In principal they could have done the same thing in Mozilla and would have had more say in the future of the engine than in Blink - Google does what it wants with Blink.
The Presto engine is owned by Opera Software, nothing Jon can do about that now. Rather than start from scratch, they chose an existing open-source engine to build their browser on ... that makes sense. They chose Blink because it was the biggest player in the field, so there'd be no question of sites not supporting it.
