Famous companies are totally wrong...
Please don't mention V-SS

Why exactly did you leave V? Iโm very curious.
(The amount of OT I create is getting near to the amount of OT by someone else :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_closed_eyes:)
- Because I hate those โthis browser is the best, it has a lot of features that no other hasโ [but when someone copies them, they are often done better]. Luakit only describes what it is, & does so only as little as needed.
- Because I donโt need most of the features.
- Because it offers too little customisation, & thereโs too many breaking changes that we have to reverse-engineer again. Luakit is harder to customise from the beginning (getting easier when youโd use JS mods in Vivaldi), but you can do almost anything. (I must admit I havenโt done much yet, as I have other work to do.)
- Because the redesign of panels pushed me over the edge (I was just too lazy to fix the mods, heh)
What I like about Luakit although it wasnโt the reason for the switch:
- I can use the keyboard much better (though sometimes it is a shock to realise that Iโm not in insert mode)
- It has support for usercss OOTB.
- Btw., thanks to it not supporting extensions I now have the web themed much more consistently, as I had to switch from Dark Reader to base16-everywhere.
But
- I must admit that using the devtools is a pain, because those of WK2Gtk are not as good as those of Cr, & LK doesnโt detect when I click a text field there.
- So far I havenโt found a way to switch theme on the fly, which is a problem when most of the desktop can (except for LK, waybar, swaybg, stalonetray & dzen2, of which only LK cannot be simply restarted w/o reloading all the heavy web pages)
-
@potmeklecbohdan
So how is your Luakit Browser looks like?
-
@Stardust Thereโs little to see, like it was with my last V setup.
my start page (no, it ainโt built-in)
& to show off base16-everywhere, coz I simply love that usercss (no, it ainโt built-in); & the follow-link feature (yes, it is built-in, but I havenโt fixed base16-everywhere to work well with it yet)
-
@potmeklecbohdan Interesting. Your aesthetic sense and mine could not be more different.
-
@Ayespy Thereโs little aestethic in the screenshots
- luakit interface only has the functions it needs, no design/aestethic
- almost the same for the start page (which I use only with the keyboard like
fv
for Vivaldi forum,fgl
for GitLab etc) - base16-everywhere just forces colours & doesnโt ask about what the site used the elements for, so thereโs little aestethic as well
But I must admit itโs more efficient this way.
-
@potmeklecbohdan I understand. But I literally am repelled by the interface. So you find it tolerable, I do not. Different aesthetic sense.

Wrt "amount of OT I create is getting near to the amount of OT by someone else", i think it's most mean of you to pick on @k**** so much. All they desperately want to know is when it's time to eat their lunch in the stable.
Exactly what I think but I didn't dare to write it down.
-
@potmeklecbohdan It is utterly horrifying....
I see your point, but I must be missing something, because I simply can not understand how the numbers everywhere can be appealing to look at.
(I apologize in advance.)
-
At least I prefer to complicate the life of the browser more than mine, but everyone there.

It's simple, if you want to reply, think about number 272

Itโs not my fault that you guess wrongly :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:
2. Not that i've ever doubted it, but most especially now, i feel so comprehensively amazed at how you play in a league so extremely far above me. Really it now amazes me that we ever even crossed paths.
I just focus on one thing more instead of focusing on many things less; thatโs what might make it appear โfar aboveโ. & there isnโt so much surprise if you consider other facts, like the OS family we are both using.
3. I suspect this is dumb to ask, but ... your new browser still actually renders graphics on "normal" https pages, doesn't it?
The question missed me. Is the emphasis on graphics, on normal, or on pages? (Plus I have no idea what an https page is
. HTTPS is a transfer protocol IIRC.)
That's not a sarcastic bunch of words, i'm genuinely uncertain, given the whole UI seems so utterly spartan to me... & though they were talking about a different browser whose name now escapes me, several months ago i saw some forum chat in the ArchLabs forum between some members there about "best browser", & several of them began swooning about the
whateveritwascalled
browser which had to be basically hand-built, & thence gave only text output. Initially i thought they were all just making some shared joke, but after a while i decided they were actually serious. I felt horrified.Me needs it! โฆactually, I canโt see myself using it in the near future, but do you by chance remember something that could help me find the thread?

They are there just when I need to follow a link / click a button etc with the keyboard. Thanks to them I can do so by simply looking at the relevant elementโs number & writing it.
-
@guigirl Oh, I didnโt expect that you would read more than what was needed to identify the thread (if at all reading any thread), thanks!
& actually, itโs a nice collection of browsers (nyxt is my next favourite).

Yes, ok, really nice but...
.

.
Do they have a forum where OT is allowed? -
@Ornorm I can stay here for that.

@guigirl I was hoping to finally have a moment for plugging in all the simple protocols in kiwmi
, but now I have to be studying how the situation around Servo is these days
(PS: sorry about the higher concentration of emojis, Iโm enjoying that I finally can use rofimoji in kiwmi
)
Edit: Oh, shut up
Mozilla; I know why I donโt want to use your browser.

Another one bites the dust
Exactly. But that's not the full quote, I edited the post a bit (it's been 5 years, not 4, 2016 I ditched Firefox when Vivaldi was in a better shape to be used as the main browser) and added this
"It pains me returning to the point I was when Chropera abandoned me, but times do change (for the worst) and in my book privacy comes first, then features. And Firefox has improved a lot compared to what it was back then."
Vivaldi was really unfortunate falling in that transitional period of Firefox's code rewriting, and one can say Chromium code was (and maybe still is) more clean and efficient so they would have chosen it anyway, but unless Vivaldi seriously improves in the privacy department in these dark (goo-gel) times they are going to lose even more privacy-sensitive people.
