Starting a List of Software with Lifetime licenses.
-
It is getting harder to find lifetime licenses. Malwarebytes just went to a yearly subscription. Sandboxie is also yearly now. So I'd like to make a list of companies that still offer them. Please contribute if you know some. I was lucky and bought malwarebytes at the last second. -Winpatrol (I bought this and am very happy with it. It's cheap to buy and extremely light on the system. Gives a beefed up taskmanager and an excellent behaviorial/registry monitor. Few programs are more respected:) -Twister antivirus (??? unknown to me) -Anvir Taskmanager Pro (I used the free version, and it is fantastic) -ChicaPc-Shield by Chicalogic - an antimalware solution (this is new, and uses the old malwarebytes engine and sigs). -

Spyshelter has a lifetime license. It is a fantastic product. It also has a yearly subscription if you wish. I used to use their free version (32 bit only) but bought their lifetime when I upgraded to a 64 bit. They are still actively developed and I receive periodic updates. You can sandbox (restricted mode) programs (like your browser). It has a powerful hips. And its very light on my system. Has more features, check out their page.

Not certain they still do, but that programmer's editor I used to use in Windows 12 years ago had a lifetime license … no, looks like UltraEdit is now only 1 year of free upgrades. Still free lifetime support ...
Good question. By "license" do you mean upgrades, support, or simply use? Other than software that requires an online service (virus definition files, some messenger client) I see no reason why software should cease functioning after say a year. If you're not expecting unlimited upgrades then you could say UE has a lifetime license. Especially given the lifetime support. Admittedly some FOSS has unlimited upgrades by definition, but usually tech support isn't that good ...

voodoo shield. http://voodooshield.com/
an anti exe with other goodies. i'm trying it out and liking it. light on my system. checks unknowns with virus total. has some sort of sandbox feature … check their page or pc mags. (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2422274,00.asp)
pc mag rated it as good, 3.5 stars out of 5
there is a free version and a paid version. the paid version is for 1 year lic. however, i was reading at wilders security that voodoo shields developer is planning on a lifetime license in the future. in the mean time, he said you could still get one by contacting him by email. the price would be double the yearly price (which was 20, so a life time license would be 40 dollars). if someone tries this ... let us know how it went:)

yes, lifetime can be obscured by lawyer speak (or politician speak). i prefer winpatrol or spyshelter that issue a license for life of the user on any computer (i'm on my 3rd computer since buying those licenses and they still work perfectly). winpatrol even lets me use my one license for all my computers in my home (i have 3). malwarebytes used to have a proper life license (and they are honoring mine even though they have moved to a yearly fee structure now - which is a good point, established companies with a good reputation are smarter buys). just make sure you never lose your key. many others offer a life of computer license (and that's still pretty good). others offer life until next major update (what???). etc etc.
so do your homework if you're going to purchase to understand what life means. winpatrol changed ownership, and luckily the new owner is honoring old licenses and still offering new ones.

I just got the current version of mIRC (7.36) running on Wine, and it accepted my registration code from 2001.

Trillian Instant messenger
https://www.trillian.im
I use Trillian to still use MSN and Skype as 2 separate networks. It connects to most IM networks and many social media sites, and all my email accounts.
If you want the full features to use across several PCs and devices, then buying a licence gives you a fluid experience.
If you only use it on 1 device then the free version will do.- Note: Currently there is no working OTR plugin, so for more secure chat I use their own Astra network, which is open source.

HiDownload
Multi-threaded download manager and stream sniffer.
I have been using this download manager for many years.
Many browser addons are aware of it, and it also has a built-in browser for stripping multiple links or displaying the embedded site contents.

buy your winpatrol subscription free license before its too late.
"Subscription Free pricing is going once,
going twice, …As a point of clarification. Any CURRENT license holder for WinPatrol PLUS , WinPrivacy PLUS or any of the Family or Combo Packs already owns a subscription free license that never expires and therefore does not need to purchase another. Even if your license is over 10 years old, you are covered.
We will also continue to make the free version of both WinPatrol and WinPrivacy available. They will work as they do now without nagging you to purchase.
… purchase a subscription free licenses that never expires while you still can!"
