Opera threatens to remove my account
-
Okay, I might've exaggerated it a little bit...
(Sorry for the click-bait)
Got an e-mail informing me that (due to inactivity) my Opera account will be deleted in two weeks time - unless I log in to that account before the deadline. Now I'm wondering:
- Should I ignore it and let them remove my account?
- Should I login to my account and remove it myself (providing that there is such possibility)?
- Should I login to keep my account in case I would need it (for whatever reason) in the future?
The thing is, I no longer use the (current) Opera browser, but I'm still using the old Opera as my mail client (it's burdensome, I know, but I decided to migrate straight to Vivaldi mail once it's available, instead of jumping through different mail clients). But it means that - technically - I haven't cut my ties with Opera entirely.
However, a lot of folks here have used to be active members of the old My Opera community - that's how I got to know some of you (or at least how we've bumped on each other for the first time).
So, how about you? Do you still have an Opera account? Maybe you're still an active community member there? Or maybe you removed your account already? I'd like to hear your stories...
BTW. I've visited the Opera forums out of curiosity and I swear that the first (randomly chosen) thread that I've opened was some guy asking for a solution to his issue with Opera and the first reply was somebody recommending him to use Vivaldi instead.

"Ol' Opera"-Nostalgia
I think it might be a (somewhat) relevant factor here. I might be a bit attached to it and thought about keeping it just for this reason. Perhaps that's why I'm seeking for some sensible reasoning, to convince me otherwise.

@pafflick Well, as you know, the account is (only) for using
- The forum(s)
- Opera WebMail
So you might want to keep it for feeding your forum curiosity (e.g. if you ever want to post agreement when someone recommends Vivaldi).

They did remove my account.
No problem for me though as I will not go through a third party "disqus" to get to any forum/blog/whatever and have not used the account since they introduced this "feature".
My blogs, the few there are now on Wordpress and some are duplicated here for anyone that may be interested.
To be honest there's not much there but some personal thoughts and rants (I still cannot view the Dakar Rally on TV in Canada. It's been many years so I boycott the Tour de France, same promoters). -
@greybeard Yes, there is good reason to be wary of Disqus.
-
@greybeard They did use Disqus before, but right now, they seem to be using nodeBB in both the forums and the blog comments. And I love their template - I wish ours would look so neat and modern... 🥺
-
@pafflick Didn't know... Don't use it anymore so have no reason to be there though.

A lot of the better Opera posters are on both forums. And some of the people still using old Opera. (Pesala will recall replying to the user who posts on the Opera forums as emc about customizing the menu in Opera 9 so he could open links in Vivaldi.)

Technically, I'm on both forums as well and I'm still using the old Opera as my mail client, so that would include me.
-
@sgunhouse The annoying thing is the solution offered still does not work for me.

You do realize that's a lowercase L (as in "link"), right? I know, hard to tell in that font, but it is not the digit "1"
letter l versus digit 1
