A curse of emptiness
-
Vivaldi has a habit of not being able to display content. It already starts with the speed dial page; often the preview images stay empty right after the start (which can, BTW, take more than half a minute on a freshly booted PC). You can open more new tabs with the speed dial as default content, doesn't matter, they all stay empty for a while. But no panic, no need to reload them all (which doesn't work against the state of emptiness anyway). You may just have to close Vivaldi and wait a while before trying to start it again. Next time they may appear. Or another time. It's getting even worse with "power browsing". Imagine you have an image gallery with a lot of thumbnailed images. So you decide to Ctrl-click a few of them to get them loaded in background tabs for each and watch them later ... that works for a while. But the longer you do so, the more tabs tend to stay completely empty, even though you can watch a progress bar in the URL field (so the document is obviously loaded, possibly rendered, but just not displayed). It doesn't matter if you refresh the page (F5). It sometimes even doesn't matter if you close the tab and let it open again. But usually it helps to duplicate the tab (right-click on the tab grip), then the duplicate is most often displayed. But when more than 2/3 of all tabs opened in a row stay empty, you'll restart Vivaldi anyway. Fortunately, it remembers the last session per default.

Vivaldi has a habit of being ALPHA software, unstable, buggy and not feature complete.
May the 1.0.xxx suggest a stable version but it is not.
Vivaldi getting better from week to week but it will need months to get it to a called stable software.
Please keep this in mind during testing.
Btw., which version are you using, we are at 1.0.283.8.
Cheers, mib -
Of course I do. Therefore I tried to fill in a few details, hoping that they may guide a developer to the reason.
I keep updating "snapshots" when they get offered automatically. -

Cheers, mibI'm not that much of a tech-savvy person, but from my knowledge, there shouldn't be so many issues with rendering speeds, etc. There is actually an extension on the Chrome Web Store called WebBoost, which somehow makes pages load faster. For me, Vivaldi is the browser that loads pages' content the slowest, but after I installed this extension, it dramatically increased my loading speeds. And my internet connection is good! There are some Chinese browsers that somehow "rape" my internet connection so that pages load in a matter of milliseconds, like Baidu Spark and UC Browser for PC. There is really a difference between browser loading speeds and it's not the user's internet connection, but probably something that has to do with the architecture of each browser and how it prioritizes the elements its loading.
I have to agree with both of you - Vivaldi IS slow, and IS in an early stage of development, so it's not surprising, I just hope it gets better in a month or two.
