A Minus for Google Plus

Much of Google+ Network Shutting Down after user data was left exposed.
Google said up to 500,000 users had been affected.
According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the company knew about the issue in March but did not disclose it.Fortunately, I have never signed up to Google+ services.

I signed up to google+ and near immediately un-signed up for it when it was launched.
That was back before my anti-google days.
Notice the disparity between "you [our competitors] have 90 days to fix your bugs and then we release them to the world" and what's happened here. Double standards, eh.
I very much hope they don't get away scot-free after this, what with the GDPR and all that, but I have a strong suspicion they'll worm their way out somehow.

G + is not a bad social network, compared to FB and Twitter, it offers in this service many more possibilities and freedoms than its competitors.
But logical, being a company, like tl, is oriented to make this service also profitable, what as a minority network is not the case, many people do not even know their existence with the predominance of Twitter and Facebook. in this ambit.
On the other hand the privacy of many companies has been questioned for a long time, especially on Facebook and also on Google and this means that more and more users are looking for alternatives to these services and in recent times many decentralized and private networks have arisen, where there is not a BigBrother behind and someone who does business with the data of the users, to mention Diaspora, Mastodon, Hubzilla, Friendica, Twister, Agorakit, Scuttlebutt and others, who increasingly register more users -
I use a lot G+ , following linux trends there, Vivaldi page, and other people. Very useful to discuss with mainteners of linux distros for example.
I use Mastodon and Diaspora too, less known but very useful too.

I use G+ and Diaspora. And yes Diaspora is a good alternative

@pesala For a company proclaiming it "will do no evil" I am quickly losing trust, even to the point of moving my google docs to OneDrive.
There is more on the from the nakedsecurity security blog including info on a Class Action suit launched against google in the last few days.
I won't repeat it here but briefly, apparently, google knew of the flaw about seven months ago (what happened to Project Zero where google discloses bugs, and sets off a 90 day deadline to fix them????), It was fixed but never reported and google who was affected!?!
Disappointing.

Google + will close soon. Many users are moving to MeWe, an advanced social network very similar in appearance to G +, but oriented to the user's privacy (zero ads and zero trackers) they make money with their shop, where they offer plug-ins, themes, etc. ,
I think this would also be a good place where Vivaldi can move when he closes G +, MeWe does not need to disguise Vivaldi with a UA switcher so that it works.

i'm actually glad google+ is going away and i'm glad they aren't using google+ to power the comments on youtube anymore
